One of the best bands of the nineties.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

they were alright. some of their tunes just went on and on to no end, though.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

"high tension house"!!!!!

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:34 (twenty years ago)

one of my favorite CDs of the 90s. The compilation that is. I liked pretty much everything Roy Montgomery was involved with. To quote another review of another record, "a perfect evocation of a certain mood".

Outstanding kiwi atmospheric song-not-song stuff!

Never heard that Dadamah album, but I did buy the Flies Inside The Sun record that came out on Kranky.

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Friday, 16 March 2012 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

Same drummer and bass player iirc, but obv no Montgomery in the band.

Thanks Ned! Listening to "Brian's Children" right now, and it's great. Wish this had "High Tension House" though.

awesome! thanks for posting this. also i have a question - where did this band's name come from?

funch dressing (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 19:06 (twelve years ago)

I always assumed it was just (dada-esque) nonsense?

I just read that they only ever did four live shows, so we're pretty luck to have this one.

I thought it was based on some Dada/Surrealist thing. Googling it I see "Exposition Dada" Max Ernst was a booklet from the time, maybe they just corrupted it like Merzbow did with Merzbau?

Kim Pieters was also in Doramaar and seemed fond of references to arty things.

Live set is great btw. Scratch Sun sounds surprisingly like Hawkwind...

Love the compilation set. Think it was something I chanced on possibly in the Tower Dublin flood sale all those years ago.

Stevolende, Thursday, 22 May 2014 07:41 (twelve years ago)

Oh man so stoked to DL this set!
