RFI: Gorillaz - "Dare" (DFA and Soulwax remixes)

OK so I normally hate Gorillaz and their cartoon-band pretensions but holy shit the "Dare" remixes are awesome!! Superpitcher dropped the remix (not sure if it's the DFA remix or the Soulwax one. It goes on for like nine minutes, insane blistering bassline, crazy tension ramping up and up and up) tonight in NYC and it was fucking mental. Count me impressed. Or sleep-deprived. Or both. Anyway, tell me what you know about the remixes, which is which, etc.

Probably the DFA one, that's the one he played when I saw him last month. It's great, especially the last two or three minutes where it goes up and up.. People went nuts to it.

Actually does anyone know what that noise at the end is? It's not in the original 'Dare, is there anything like it in other DFA tunes?

Bn1 (Bn1), Thursday, 20 October 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

that mix aint going to be available commericially from what i heard ..

but i suspect it'll be added to a 'fleece the fans remix album' thats bound to be released to fund more of the videos, but the track is in Sony Connect's catalogue (no idea re iTunes/napster etc).. and is well worth the 99p if you ask me.

awesome track.

What noise do you mean bn1? Those squeaky overdrive synthnoises? In that case I'd suggest LCD Soundsystem's "Yeah" (Crass version).

Nice to see that Superpitcher seems to end his sets on a 'local note', I read (where?) that he finished his set in Seattle with a Black Hole Sun remix. I wonder if he'll play a gabber track if he ever gets to Rotterdam ;-)

it's available sorry but i'm so over this...

I have it too.

it's a bit DFA remix chapter 450, but it's ok I guess.

they're like Tiefschwarz in that their actual production tricks are neat but ultimately fairly devoid of wit or pop and hence alot depends on the remix being of something interesting and zesty in the first place.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 20 October 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

interesting and zesty though not necessarily good

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 20 October 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

speaking of Tiefschwarz, i quite like that 'Warning Siren' track out on their new 'Eat Books' LP

DFA are supposed to be releasing a double-disc remixes comp by the end of the year, and this will be on it. The Soulwax remix is on itunes.

and this will be on it.

hopefully is it's vocal free version.

i love the DFA but that could be the least varied 2CD compilation ever.

Agreed. Assuming what I've heard is the real thing, what in God's name were they thinking cutting out the female vox and sticking Albarn's tuneless squawk up front?! Fun otherwise, but DAMN.

Thats the noise.. Though I don't enjoy 'Yeah' at all. It works better on the gorillaz remix I think.

Bn1 (Bn1), Thursday, 20 October 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

without the vocal it'd be the exact same as all the other dfa remixes.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 21 October 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

Soulwax have a nice remix CD out. Nite Versions or something.
