Extra DVD with the NEW album: now just a 'sweetie'?

e.g: the Gorillaz and the Oasis and the Franz albums:

A year or so ago, you got something substantial in content (e.g. the Kasabian one with three videos, and two documentary features.)

Now: Lucky to get one video and a 'fans camcorder' short.

So, does this affect you? Does it make you 1) go for the slightly more expensive version of an album you were going to buy anyway 2) Actually buy one you might not have?

I never buy stuff with free DVDs or whatever if I can avoid it. They annoy the fuck out of me.

I'm quite puritanical about just wanting songs. I don't collect rare or limited edition stuff, I'm not into extras and bonuses - I don't even have any Embrace rareties or signed stuff particularly, despite obvious opportunities. I just want songs.

ninjatune have done some crackers recently ..

keepintime full length film to go with cd album of dj cuts and remixes, hexstatic .. including 3d videos, and lots of nerdy animation vids for each track on the album, and the new one from blockhead where the extra dvd has various visual extras for his previous album.

but yeah on the whole these extras a a few minutes of nothing ..

i have to admit i stumped up for the gorillaz .. not so much for the dvd, but the extra packaging/artwork. the dvd has some fun stuff on it however, but not that much.

i've never paid extra for a dvd, and i don't think i've ever watched a 'free dvd'. but i do like watching videos.

I'll get the extra DVD if its something I want to watch, will not if its not.

BUT having said that my local Sainsburys quite often prices up the 'Special Editions' incorrectly with the same prices as the normal versions, and I know that this happens in other supermarkets as well so if you do want to buy them - Those are the places to look

rachel's album has 6 videos. 2 are off singles that were on the last album. odd.

they can't put loads of good stuff on and really load it up,
as that then kills the other cash cow - the seperately released band/ artist dvd.
so they're getting a bit stuch aren't they as to what to put on for extras. the GORILLAZ one takes the p iss.

To be honest, sometimes the bonus DVD is the only reason not to just pirate the album. I mean, packaging is nice, but I'll pony up the cash if I get a DVD with it, since I can't download the DVD.

isn't this killing her dvd ? i bought it to watch the dvds - wouldn't have bought the cd anyway and i don't listen to it.
