The best pause in recent music history?

Inspired by the revival of the Garbage thread, my vote goes to :
Garbage - Supervixen
The moment when the guitar pauses in the intro (twice!) is so perfect.
I remember the first time i heard them on headphones at Virgin, i had to play that intro over and over more than 50 times

i like the pause in Scissor Sisters 'Laura' a lot though it seems somewhat pointless.

currently i love the one in m.a.n.d.y's 'body language'.

Oh, it's gotta be the one after the "Ahhhhhhhh" in "Good Vibrations," where the harmonies fade into reverb paradise.

Depends what you mean by "recent," though. . .

3/4 of the way thru fanfares (vitalic) when it stops and you think it's finished and then it goes 'fanfares number one and two' and goes compeletely crazy and wow.

I can do the hully gully!

I can imitate Vin Scully!

Let's take time out from that triple play for this message from Farmer Dan's Pure Pork Sausages! Mmm, mmm...

Ha ha, well in that case it's the pause just before the guitar solo in "Hymn For the Dudes" by Mott the Hoople (xxpost)

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 20 October 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

beach boys is recent in my book. I put recent music because i did not write to write "rock" or any other genre and exclude gems like vitalic or m.A.n.d.y...
or beach boys..

"The Groove" - Rodney Franklin, 1980. In a strange pre-cursor to Smokie ft Roy "Chubby" Brown, all the Essex soulboys used to shout WANKAAAH!!! during the pauses.

Even though I voted for the Beach Boys, can I second "Hymn for the Dudes"?

Some kinda. . .temporary. . .

(pause)

Then. . .WHAM!!!!! into the best guitar solo ever.

Well, there's the fake ending of "Can't Hardly Wait," though I dunno if that counts. My personal favorite is the pause in "Summer's Last Sound" where Ian sings "The price of bread went up five pence today.....And an immigrant was kicked to death again."

owen moorhead (i heart daniel miller), Thursday, 20 October 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

My favourite is the one in 'I Am The Resurrection'.

Strangely enough, whenever it's played out somewhere, people always cheer when the pause hits as tho it's the end of the track. I always thought people should know that it's there, tho maybe they're just all pissed.

"STOP!.............HAMMER TIME!"

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 20 October 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

Remember, Brian Wilson put out a new version of "Good Vibrations" last year, so it COULD count. Sorta.

Marilyn Manson (yes) on "Angel With The Scabbed Wings"... when it stops and he hocks phlegm or summin.
I still love that bit (and most of Antichrist Superstar) to this day.
