strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

That's a good question! It never occurred to me that they might be. Bootsy Collins real name isn't Collins though is it?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

I do not really think they were, Jess. But I don't know for sure. (Nice useless post by me there.)

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

allmusic (and everyone who cribs from allmusic) says yes!

some fansites say no!

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure Collins was his real name! Why would two brothers adopt a fake stage name as boring as "Collins"?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

Jess, I'm pretty sure that Fred Wesley's autobio says "no", but I can't check for sure because I lent it out.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

I think you are overlooking the extraordinary linguistic properties of the name Collins. Plus the Bootsy part is the EXCITING part. You just need the last name there for moral support.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

hmm.

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

Either way I am wrong and his last really is Collins. And we are no closer to answering the question.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

I could ask Clyde on Monday if you want.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Or, he's in the phonebook.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

when my fact checker asks me, i will say "YES, BECAUSE CLYDE STUBBLEFiELD TOLD ME."

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

being a 20 year old college student, this will provoke a puzzled reaction and i will no longer feel cool

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

"Lyn was one of several James Brown discoveries, including Bootsy Collins and Catfish Collins, who were, actually, not Lyn's relatives."

so sez: http://www.soulwalking.co.uk/Respect.html

autovac (autovac), Thursday, 20 October 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 October 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Jordan OTM.

The closest I ever got to Clyde was reading the special drum issue of Grand Royale. Jordan, are you taking lessons from him or something?

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 20 October 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

No, but he has a Monday night gig in town (Madison).

Also, my band did a show with his band once. He told some good stories and hit on my girlfriend.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 20 October 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Thursday, 20 October 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
Wow, did I not remember this thread.

Anyway, I need a song ID of a JB song I heard on the radio this morning. The only lyrics are rockin the zodiac, i.e. "aquarius! get down with the funky soul, capricon! get down etc." and it's got a killer Fred Wesley solo at the end. Anyone know?

Jordan, Friday, 30 March 2007 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

one of the dudes from pe0ple under the stairs hit on my girlfriend once.

:-/

deej, Friday, 30 March 2007 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

i'm not really sure why i made that face in that post.

deej, Friday, 30 March 2007 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

Haha.

Google tells me it might be "People Get Up and Drive That Funky Soul"??

Jordan, Friday, 30 March 2007 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

does he mention ophiuchus?

get bent, Friday, 30 March 2007 17:55 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, I've heard that track - I think that's the one. It's got a really dirty, blunt sort of sound, right?

Then again, he's known to use phrases from one song in another song, so it could actually just be the extended version of "People Get Ready To Let The Hot Man Come Back In And Popcorn Again One More Time Again Parts II"

Hurting 2, Friday, 30 March 2007 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

Jordan, you'll love Motherlode, which has the long version of that song -- nine minutes plus.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Saturday, 31 March 2007 00:09 (nineteen years ago)

Phelps is funny first name to give someone isn't it?
