I think the "big" deal surrounding him was that he was supposed to be taking the torch from Cecil Taylor, I remember a quote on an album I saw which said that "the AMAZING thing is that his left hand technique is as as good as his right hand" or something like that. Black and red cover art with him on the cover, I believe. I think he was German, definitely a cracker. Does anybody have any insight?

I don't think so. I want to say "mid-'70s". Possibly earlier.
