ESPN Jock Jams: The Box

Yet if they renamed it "Hip House: 1990-1997" it suddenly becomes indispensible.

the new talking heads "brick" seems pretty pointless to me.

mitya can't remember his frigging password, Sunday, 23 October 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

didn't pearl jam do a boxset of that whole live concert series?

the problem is the most truly expensive boxsets (bear family, maybe?) are actually usually deeply cool. (http://www.bear-family.de/mailorder/showoneproduct.html?lang=&p=BFX+15229 -- 3 vols, 30 LPs, 200$ u.s.ish each, but now deleted -- the complete compleat killer!)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 23 October 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

they still sell this tho: http://www.bear-family.de/mailorder/showoneproduct.html?lang=&p=BCD+15784

(which is apparently just the "smashes"!)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 23 October 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

Earl Nash (earlnash), Sunday, 23 October 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

I don't think Merzbox qualifies because it's not even close to being "extensive."

owen moorhead (i heart daniel miller), Sunday, 23 October 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

But there's no need to make up box sets; at almost 60 dollars U.S., "Final VU - 1971-73" is surely the most extensive, expensive, and ultimately pointless collection money can buy.

owen moorhead (i heart daniel miller), Sunday, 23 October 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

As much as I love Fugazi, I don't see why anyone would need all 20 or 30 or however many of those concert CDs they put out, even at the drastically reduced package price they offer them at.

Where to start...

That new Sire boxset seems like a big white elephant to me, for starters.

I was initially excited when I saw the tracklisting, and was ready to pick it up, until I realized it wasn't a 4-DVD box set of videos.. it was 3 CDs and ONE DVD, the latter of which had the least interesting songs for videos, except maybe for "Pop Muzik" (or was that even on there?) All for what, sixty bucks? Um, sure. Just Say Rip-Off.

I mentioned earlier this week how much two copies of the Faust box set cost me, and got called a bastardt.

I'm not going to tell (again) the story of the two sets of the Funhouse sessions I came by.

Suffice to say, AlexinNYC, your experience was the exact opposite of mine, in that I now love this album after having sat through its entirety of session.
