Ruminations on impending premature death versus predictions of unrelenting, merciless apocalypse. Both misappropriated and misinterpretted (the former used to score John Cussack's romantic endeavors in the abortive romantic comedy, "Serendipity," the latter used to hawk Volkswagons), these two arguably signature songs by troubled troubadour Nick Drake are beloved for their folky delicacy and languid splendor, but belie their gentle acoustic charm in doomy foreboding.
Which do you pick?
Also, "Black Eyed Dog" has been covered by everyone from JJ72 (to no great effect) through the Swans. Has anyone dared to cover "Pink Moon"?

"Pink Moon" is a lovely song, but I find "Black Eyed Dog"'s stark mystique far more affecting.

I find "Black Eyed Dog" too cold and alienating in its starkness.

I like the harmonics on "Black Eyed Dog," but for "stark"/"harrowing" Nick Drake I prefer "Know," and for late-late Nick Drake I prefer "Rider on the Wheel."
