Melvins take over Big Business

So, apparently, Kevin Rutmanis -- Melvin's bassist for the longest time to date -- is no longer in the band. Trevor Dunn took over for a small while. Now David Stone is currently interim bassist for the current dates for the current Jello + Melvins tour happening right now on the West Coast. While there was a Melvins/Big Business tour recently where they played together at the same time, the union of the two is apparently going to be a definitive line-up change.. however long it will last is anyone's guess.

Big Business -- Jared Warren (ex Karp, Tight Bros., The Whip) on bass/vocals and Coady Willis (ex Murder City Devils, Dead Low Tide) -- are moving from Seattle to Los Angeles, if not already, to become the new rhythm supplements to Melvins. The lineup will be:

Buzzo - guitar, vocals
Jared - bass
Dale - drums
Coady - drums #2

Big Business don't plan to break up, as far as I know, and they'll still be doing their thing, though obviously splitting their time between bands, of course.

Assuming this is all true, Melvins.. just... won, basically. This really can't be topped. This is total rock n' roll WMD action here.

Hmmm...now I really must see the Jello-rants-away-over-Melvins tour here next month.

Well, this tour lineup right now won't include the BB guys, but you should see the show anyway... I mean, i've never seen Jello do DK songs live before, and this is a far preferable band to the original players at this point, for obvious reasons.

..as far as I know. I have no idea if Big Business are still here in Seattle or they already moved to L.A. This might increase the chance of THAT lineup playing depending on where they are, granted!

Big Business is still my favourite album of 2005, I think

Really, what this is all about at heart is that this new version of the Melvins needs to back up Chaki and do a combination of Steely Dan and Prince songs. Western civilization could then end, since its original purpose will at last have been achieved.

Don't forget the Lief.

Hm. Ian G. should know better. But I'll always appreciate him for being one of the two or three music journalists of the time who adored Slowdive, so.

Damn right.
Worst review ever.

Seattle's Melvins' footnote in rock history rests on their huge influence on Kurt Cobain.

Still loving Head For the Shallow. Just picked up the Tour EP from these two -- They sound just as tight straight to tape as they do in the studio.

Wow...Big Business + Melvins....damn...crazy!

Big Business, I've seen twice now, once at the Triple Rock opening for Soviettes, and once in the Mainroom First Ave opening for Blood Bros...really fucking amazing and heavy band...Never a huge Murder City guy, but that drummer is awesome.

That Melvins review was pretty witless....Shit, even me, small town clueless MN boy, had heard of Melvins BEFORE I'd ever heard of Nirvana...
