Name some great Reggae tracks for the already initiated. Doesn't have to be too obscure, just ones people may not have heard yet that you think are worth a mention.

Des All Stars - Night Food Reggae: Really good ska rack from the Trojan "Loch Ness Monster" compilation

The Royals - Peace And Love: Pleasant Rocksteady pre-roots Rasta music with nice vocal harmonies.

Beres Hammond - Irie and Mellow: Brooding Lovers Rock - what I like to call "Rainy" Reggae similar to "Night Nurse" by John Holt.

Early B - Sunday Dish: A toasted recipe for rice and peas.

Prince Far I - Bedward the Flying Preacher
Keith Hudson - pretty much anything on The Hudson Affair

Ned T.Rifle, Monday, 24 October 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

I know Hudson's not really 'lost' but I don't ever want him to be as I think John Peel playing his "Turn the Heater On' (covered of course by New Order) was what turned me onto reggae in the first place. Incidentally if anyone has that particular track digitised...I'd love to replace my stretched tape version.

Ned T.Rifle, Monday, 24 October 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

where's NO cover it? i'm sure i have it somewhere, with its companion "So Cold Without Your Love."

Pat Kelly, Summer Time

We're liking the roots on this thread, aren't we?

If so:
"I Man A Grasshopper" by Pablo Moses
"Three Meals A Day" (also called "Detention", I think) by D. Brown
"G@nja Exchange" by Ringo (my fave cut on the "Ali Baba" rhythm)
"Kiss Somebody" by Johnny Osbourne.

But I am still enjoying things from the late 80s, like:

"Blinking Something" by Pinchers
"BRRRP" by Nardo Ranks
"Gun In A Baggy" by Little Lenny
"Sweet and Nice" by Lambert Douglans and Wayne Fire

Big hits all but one doesn't hear them about much, sadly.

mully, that Tyrone Taylor is on the recent Auralux comp of Niney productions called "Sufferation," with "In Style" added on to make it a killer 7 minutes.
and tim, weren't we swapping awhile back?

Beta (abeta), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Andy, yes! Sorry! I've got like 4 fantastic CDs for you at home but the project has kind of run aground because I have another 3 or 4 to do! Also because the Wolf Moon LP is such a weird recording / pressing that I want to work out how to make it sound good first.

Happily, I recently broke my ankle so I have a little more time at home just at the moment. If you send me yr address (usual place) then you'll get a packet soon in the post.
