What bands COULD you become huge fans of, you jut haven't yet?

So a while back I had a thread about how after a certain age, you are unlikely to acquire new "all-time" favorite bands. You will like new stuff, but you're unlikely to find a band that you become obsessed with and explore their entire catalog, etc.

But if you WERE to decide to go all-out with a new band - defend them in chat rooms, buy all their albums, learn the sexual history of the bass player - which, if any, would it be?

Based on my tastes, I think I could become a Death Cab fan. Or a Ryan Adams fan. (And yes, before you say anything, I also like vanilla ice cream and good clean water.)

I haven't become anything more than a casual fan of these bands. I'm saying those are the ones I COULD go nuts over, given, I don't know...more spare time? Some other impetus?

So if you had to adopt a couple of other all-time obsessive bands, who would they be?

I am of a certain age, and every few years (sometimes more often) I fall in love with some artist more or less in the way you describe.

Stuff I am pretty certain I would like if I ever made time to pay attention to it: Manu Chao / Mano Negra, The Shins, Lambchop, Pernice Brothers (and related bands), Tinariwen, Afghan Whigs / Twilight Singers, Cat Power.

As a guy whose own stuff was once dubbed "lit-pop" by Xhuxk (he meant it as an insult, of course), I would most likely get into the Pernice Brothers, Mountain Goats, Russian Futurists, etc. I just never get around to it.

theres a lot that has gone on and is going on in Brazil, Costa Rica, and Japan and SE Asia that could prove obsessive. But i know im not wealthy enough to let it into my veins quite yet.
