So I had my ipod on random at work and "Tales of Taboo" came on because it is on the Crammed Global Soundclash comp and...my jaw totally hit the flaw.

Yams and weiners and belgian waffles and tit sandwiches and granny's ass.

WHAT IS THIS MUSIC?

It is FUCKING AWESOME, that's what it is!

I play "Tales of Taboo" at work constantly and then try to explain to coworkers why I'm giggling without breaking HR rules of conduct.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 October 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

I love Finley

she was one of the NEA 4.

reading that article now; I didn't know Robert Novak was one of the bastards who wrote the article that kicked that whole mess off. Novak, I hope you die on a bus.

One thing I really wish I had a copy of was the long mix of Sinead's "Jump In The River" with Finley's impossible freakout in the middle

milton parker (Jon L), Monday, 24 October 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

I was only just a acid house/"industrial" dance loving teen when I would be playing "Theme from S'Express" all the time... That break...

"SUCK ME OFF! SUCK ME OFF! BLAST IT OOOFFF!"...

they were just words to me at the time. No wonder my friends ran away from me in high school.

I would have liked to have seen her back in the day. But from a distance so I didn't get vomited.

Well, Milton, now you do. At least an mp3 copy.

She used to perform at the gay bar I worked at in the East Village all the time. She's such a sweet, friendly person.

Gogi Ormsby-Gore (Arthur), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 03:19 (twenty years ago)

thanks for that article, milton. i saw her perform "we keep our victims ready" (i think this was the title) which was a one-woman play and i remember leaving the show and feeling so emotionally drained. she was so relentless and raw. don't think i've seen anything like it since.

tricky (disco stu), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

I met her at a party and we talked about Spider-man 2. We both thought it was pretty good.

A|ex P@reene (Pareene), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

I didn't know she did music!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 06:05 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 06:07 (twenty years ago)

it doesn't always work though. i forget the name of the cd i have. it has, um, beats. there may even be coldcut mixes.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 06:11 (twenty years ago)

DO YOU HAVE A PRICK? YES I DO, JUST LIKE COWS DO

I DON'T SMILE WHEN I COME

Karen Finley has the reputation as being one of the dumbest bitches to have walked the earth. I have found no evidence to refute this.

Freddie (freddie), Saturday, 29 October 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

but then again you haven't actually looked much I'd guess

i still have my copy of the truth is hard to swallow. that has one side music and one side live rant. and of course i still have my sinead and s'express 12 inches. i saw her in philly in the late 80's do her show and i got lots of dirty looks from un-fun artsy types cuz i kept laughing so much. i thought she was really funny! my fave thing she ever did though is the kern movie *you killed me first* playing lung leg's mother. complete hilarity!

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 29 October 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

o fck i forgot that sinead record. soooo...sensitive.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 30 October 2005 07:09 (twenty years ago)

Yes, she gatecrashes that song like a drunk at a dinner party.

eleven years pass...

So THIS is where "Suck me off!" came from. Interesting.

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 17 January 2017 21:51 (nine years ago)

oh I'm so glad to be reminded of this

(The caption: “fine dining.”) (DJP), Tuesday, 17 January 2017 22:21 (nine years ago)

i performed with Karen about a year ago--she was great live and she was a great hostess too! She invited me to her daughter's birthday party after and she was definitely not dumb.
