Around a year ago, when you ordered from Insound they'd throw in a couple indie rock band trading cards. I believe it was a series of around 10-15. Collect them all dude!!!!! On the front you'd have a picture of the band, and a mini-bio on the back. I had Modest Mouse, Black Dice, and I can't remember who else.

It always struck me as really OMGWTFLOL. I mean, who would actually want those? Probably the same people who think Neighborhoodies is a good idea.

The Primitives gave out little shampoo sachets with one record, I recall. I actually washed my hair with them but my friend carefully saved them in case they became collectible. What a dork.

I got a genuine "Sex Packet" with a promo edition of Sex Packets by Digital Underground (it was actually a candy ala Nekko wafers. No I didn't eat it, but I couldn't tell you where it is today either). Great disc, though.

I never got ahold of one, but some copies of "Electric Honey" by Luscious Jackson actually came with a tube of...electric honey.

Bis' lollies that they sent out with mailorders were really cool but sadly melted all over the zones and stickers in the envelope

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 27 October 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

the new cathedral album (garden of earthly delights) apparently has some gunk on the cd that releases an apple scent when it plays.

A couple years ago, there was a group called Baleen that delivered its CDs in Petri dishes. Even better, they came packaged with a roll of Smarties.

My copy of Bonnie Prince Billy and Matt Sweeny's "Superwolf" came with an insert with a Paul Bowles quote. Basically Bowles was saying if you wanted to modernize Arab and Islamist countries you needed to ween them off hashish and get them drinking.

Dan Floss (Dan Floss), Saturday, 29 October 2005 03:23 (twenty years ago)

Sound of Music by Pizzicato Five came with a cool credit card proclaiming me a member of their fan club.

I got a promotional copy of Pills N Thrills N Bellyaches that came with a large plastic "pill" capsule that broke open (think silly putty container-style) and inside was a band-aid, a condom, aspirin and antacid)

Also, my favorite "extra stuff" ever came with "Sing Along In Hebrew", back when Teenbeat were still a fun label. It came with a long newspaper tabloid booklet about the band/record/stuff, chopsticks, a 3-D poster of the band, 3-D gorilla glasses with a scratch & sniff banana, a 1960s-style nudie matchbook, a mermaid drinking glass companion and some other random stuff too. and glitter, everywhere.

Penis Landscape anyone?

Big Black's Headache that came in a vinyl body bag you had to cut open was filled with all kinds of inserts/posters/etc. crap (I won't post the cover again, go find the disgusting record covers thread). Lungs or Bulldozer had a buncha found stuff inside (change, old photos, pieces of wire).

The CD tray insert for Plastikman's Sheet One was a piece of blotter paper (never licked it, but I assume it wasn't psychoactively enhanced).

Edward III (edward iii), Friday, 14 July 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

One edition of Boris's Absolutego had a gummi worm tucked into the spine part of the CD case, under the tray.

That's Nardwuar the Human Serviette and Ben Kweller holding that sheep. Why?

everything (everything), Friday, 14 July 2006 15:12 (nineteen years ago)

I never owned it (nor intended to) but I just loved the little red flashing LED on the spine of Pink Floyd's Pulse CD - both the idea and the object itself. It made an object seem like almost a living thing - the only CD on my sister's shelf that demanded attention to itself.
