I'm-a say Classic! As lame as "China" and their limp cover of "Eve of Destruction" were, their first album, Condition Red kicked a man-sized platter of fatuous imperialist ass.

A friend writes:

when I was 15 years old, at my very first rock and roll show, one of the guys in that band tried to convince me to actually leave with them on the tour bus after the show.

He was pretty persuasive, because romantic teenage girl-in-love-with-a--things-music that I was, I really almost did. A friend had to drag me away, explaining to me that my parents would certainly have the police after me (and the Red Rockers) in about ten seconds.

So...Classic!

Jeez, you couldn't even give that record away a year after it was published. File under very poor man's SVT, damned by faint praise.
At least SVT was reissued on Ryko.

Well, laughing boy, it currently goes for no less than ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS here.

Means crap. You know that. I've seen records on Amazon sellers that profess to go for ridiculous amounts that I've seen in stores in LA for a few bucks or less.

Looks like a hundred dollar record to me.

To be honest, I haven't heard it in about twenty years (I don't have the disc), but I heard "Guns of Revolution" on an old mixtape recently and took me right back.

'All Falls Down'...? I may have got the title wrong. That was a great track, I heard it once or twice on the radio and never forgot it. I'd like to hear it again right now.

what's wrong w/ "china"?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 28 October 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

Ah, it's fine.....but it's dry and tepid and flaccid compared to the material on the album that preceded it.

sixteen years pass...

Pretty into these guys today! Though I think I like the softer album with "China" just as well as the raucouser Condition Red.

three years pass...

I like this band, had never anything beside "China" until a few weeks ago but then hearing that song in a coffee shop made me think, "you know, i should actually see what this band was about." they're pretty decent, i like Condition Red and Good as Gold. also, i know this is vmic, but everyone except the drummer was eminently smashable back in their heyday.
