wow. magda!

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Richie Hawtin +32! Shooting up the charts...

it's crazy that Tiga is a new entry in 2005. Who votes in these things?

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

haha

F.R.I.E.N.D. (nordicskilla), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

some good people in there but it still makes me feel ill.

F.R.I.E.N.D. (nordicskilla), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Tiesto? Jesus H.

telephone thing, Friday, 28 October 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

Tiga sent his mailing list a message asking us to vote and help him make top 20. Sorry, Tiga! I forgot!

Candicissima (candicissima), Friday, 28 October 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

I'm amazed at how big trance is in the "straight" world. If this poll was done in the gay community, you'd have Peter Rauhofer, David Morales, and Danny Tenaglia topping the list, yet they don't even appear here.

LeRooLeRoo (Seb), Friday, 28 October 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

Not that I've got a problem with experience per se, but of the top 10, how many would be younger than 30? 2? This is especially an issue with English DJs, it seems.

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 28 October 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

Wot, no Tiefschwarz? Who is Hernan Cattaneo anyway?

JoB (JoB), Friday, 28 October 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

re: who-the-heck-are-they-trance-and house-types

Who is Hernan Cattaneo anyway?

An Argentinian Footballer playing in Italy, who is a part time trance DJ?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 28 October 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

No !

Bio: http://www.hernancattaneo.com/bio.php

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 28 October 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

it's all gone pete tong wrong, lets face it some of us born in the 70s types are well past it and don't read Mixmag in 2005.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 28 October 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

Isn't asking your mailing list to vote for you kind of sad?

Tooba, Friday, 28 October 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

wow. magda!

-- phil-two (philtw...), October 28th, 2005.

Richie Hawtin +32! Shooting up the charts...

it's crazy that Tiga is a new entry in 2005. Who votes in these things?

-- Jacob (jwrigh...), October 28th, 2005.

both of these jumps, and Villalobos', can be directly attributed to Hawtin's campaign a couple months back on m-nus.com to get minimal techno fans to vote in the poll since it's always so trance-heavy. good on him, i say. it worked!

ken taylrr never her (ken taylrr), Friday, 28 October 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

by 'both,' i mean magda and richie

ken taylrr never her (ken taylrr), Friday, 28 October 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

tim sweeney? diplo? HUHH?

sovietpanda (sovietpanda), Friday, 28 October 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

"For the past few years DJ Magazine has been running it's 'Top 100' DJ
Poll. Many of you might think this Poll is a waste of time (I'm not
so sure about it either) but there here lies a chance.

The Poll has become increasingly dominated by DJ's playing all genres of
dance music, yet somehow the Techno/Minimal scene is hardly represented
and therefore barely recognized for its worldwide popularity. Perhaps now
is the time when more of us should cast our votes for the DJ's we love
& respect and help to create a Top 100 that not only represents a more
diverse DJ reflection, but also truly shows that the world scene is
not only interested and dancing to only Trance.

Whether you vote for someone like me, Ricardo, Sven, Magda, Laurent, or
any of the other dj's out there, Vote now, and show your support for
the music we believe in. Cast a vote and be heard!"

Richie Hawtin

scrimhaw1837 (son_of_scrimshaw), Saturday, 29 October 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

Jeff Mills sure slid, huh?

scrimhaw1837 (son_of_scrimshaw), Saturday, 29 October 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

i got that mail from tiga and i voted for him cuz i like doing good to ppl when they need it

who cares, anyway?

but ricardo NE in 2005?
/cry

and hairwax ad did good for david guetta, obviously

nique (nique), Saturday, 29 October 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

26 - Infected Mushroom NE

WTF? These guys only have a live act and do not DJ, right?

Techno is really down all across the board - not only Mills, but also Beyer, Cox, Liebing, Umek, etc.

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 30 October 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

too much trance! fuck

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Monday, 31 October 2005 05:57 (twenty years ago)

-- LeRooLeRoo (sebastien.caro...), October 29th, 2005.

Tenaglia is there, #34.
Last time I paid attention to this sort of thing he was much higher, what happened to him?

Bn1 (Bn1), Monday, 31 October 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

I am glad my favorite DJs are not on the crap list!

Confounded (Confounded), Monday, 31 October 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

But why would Tiga even want to appear on that list of shame?

Tooba, Monday, 31 October 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

With (bigtime) respect to Tim Sweeney, I don't think he is ever going to be voted into a poll like this, just based on sheer numbers.

This list is like this every year, not worth worrying about.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 31 October 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I just noticed Tenaglia was on the list, but it's still very trance dominated.
(x-post)

LeRooLeRoo (Seb), Monday, 31 October 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

Tiga (together with hawtin) probably wanted to make this list less shitty.

nique (nique), Monday, 31 October 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
so i googled tiesto on ilx.wh3rd.net because i had been reading about these big name djs and it's all stuff from the old De Subjectivisten board! oh well

86. TALLA 2 XLC – New Entry (!)

Always looking out for the underdogs, these guys.

Jena (JenaP), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 04:10 (nineteen years ago)

I think more ridiculous than who is or isn't on this list is the total randomness of people's jumps from year to year: why, for example, is DJ Sammy suddenly up 31 from last year? I mean, I like some DJ Sammy, but as far as I know he doesn't really tour much and he hasn't released much of note. Why has Hernan Cattaneo gone down 8 points when he is vastly better known now than he was 12 months ago?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 04:19 (nineteen years ago)

dave clarke down 64, to dead last

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 05:04 (nineteen years ago)

so is dj mag like the guitar world of dance music?

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 05:06 (nineteen years ago)

just trying to get a feel for their demographic

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 05:06 (nineteen years ago)

it's kind of a mystery to me too. Isn't it a very English crowd?

Good Dog (Good Dog), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 05:15 (nineteen years ago)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

HUNTA-V (vahid), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 05:28 (nineteen years ago)

Re DJ Sammy - meant to say he hasn't released much of note in the last 12 months.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 05:47 (nineteen years ago)

is DJ mag like a Q mag for the djing/club world?

anyway, here's my top 5 of the last year just for the hell of it:

2. ian niche at KEYS MONEY LIPSTICK (september)
3. Justice (actually this is from last year but anyway)

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 9 November 2006 22:38 (nineteen years ago)

29. OFFER NISIM – New Entry

FYI: this happens to be the guy who produced "Diva" ten years ago (yes, Eurovision)

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 9 November 2006 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
These types of lists are invariably prone to controversy, but I just want to state for the record that the fact that Nic Fanciulli isn't on the list for 2006, after having been included in 2005 is ridiculous. This kid is the real deal. I've had a couple of his mixes playing on constant repeat over the past few weeks/months, and I saw him bring the best club in Tokyo (Womb) to its knees this past New Year's eve.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:55 (nineteen years ago)
