The crowd: college-aged "indie" kids, random other peers
The setting: a house
Equipment: a set of CDJs, so I can download and burn whatever I need

Thoughts?

Good call on "The Horror", but Blood Brothers? Yick.

Steev (Steev), Friday, 28 October 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

college aged indie kids would all go for Blood Brothers and they kinda have a halloween-y vibe maybe.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Friday, 28 October 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

you should play a Rocket From The Crypt song just cuz they are playing their last show ever on halloween.

bob in occupied europe (pete and pete), Saturday, 29 October 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

Not sure how danceable it is (unless you're doing the Gothy wavey arm dance), but any Halloween party that doesn't play "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus isn't a Halloween party worth its candy corn.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 October 2005 01:41 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking the same thing with that Dream Syndicate song.

Cunga (Cunga), Saturday, 29 October 2005 01:52 (twenty years ago)

"Days of Wine & Roses"?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 October 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

"HAlloween", which is off that album, yes.

Cunga (Cunga), Saturday, 29 October 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

I'm doing the exact same thing you are tomorrow night. A few that I'm playing are:

Joy Division - Disorder
David Bowie - Scary Monsters
Suicide - Ghost Rider
Patrick Wolf - Bloodbeat
Larry and the Blue Notes - Night of the Sadist

I'm also having trouble sticking with the Halloween theme while also making it danceable. I've ended up giving up some danceableness in favor of keeping with the Halloweenyness.

Matt McEver (mattmc387), Saturday, 29 October 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

i'm like 3 years behind, but-

Heiden/Blood-Smagghe's fabric mix (i think this is political but sounds v/ gothic and dancy at same time)
Rippin' Kittin - Miss Kittin (she wants to take a life)

gotta be some scary/dancy Nina Hagen songs too.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Saturday, 29 October 2005 03:09 (twenty years ago)

JornHootchisopn, Saturday, 29 October 2005 03:17 (twenty years ago)

I don't think anyone would mind in the least if you played "Thriller."

Alternately, if you have a lot of theatrical types at this bash, you can do that goofy "Masquerade" song from Phantom of the Opera ...

And some random shit that I'd want to hear if I were going to a costume party this weekend:

K.W.S., "Please Don't Go"
Bingoboys f/ Princessa, "Show Me How to Dance"
Kyper, "Tic Tac Toe"
Commodores, "Machine Gun"
Jimmy Castor Bunch, "Bertha Butt Boogie"
Leon Haywood, "I Wanta Do Something Freaky Ta You"
Spinners, "One of a Kind (Love Affair)"
Nancy Sinatra, "How Does That Grab Ya, Darlin'?"
Maxine Nightingale, "Right Back Where We Started From"
Odyssey, "Native New Yorker"
