wow my recommendations upthread are dumm
Is it crappily transferred from vinyl, with some tracks faded early? Cherry Red, can't love 'em can't kill 'em...

I've heard of Cherry Red fucking up but nothing sounds too bad on their reissue of the Brilliant Corners (band).
― Evan, Sunday, 15 August 2010 23:52 (fifteen years ago)
That's good to hear (I got those Brilliant Corners albums the first time they came out on CD, fortunately). I'm still a bit bitter by the corner-cutting on otherwise brilliant stuff like the Cherry Red Singles box.

can anyone make out all the lyrics to "Heard It All"? the best I can come up with is this:
first we were friends, then we were enemiesnow it ends with backs of familiar faces againI can't see and end to the (????????)to what which people say we tendincline my head to find your gazehear you down (????????)but in your (????????), you may find that it paysit's changed, it's different nowthe seasons come and go and nobody told mehow it gets different nowjust sit and frown while the words disown mehow then can hell be compared to limbo?hour after hour by the phone, the windowif my hands could write a recompense"up in arms" would come to your defensefor all the things it might incurthere's two different things that I know about herwhen you think she's lonely, you phone just to make sureit's changed, it's different nowthe seasons come and go and nobody told mehow it gets different nowjust sit and frown while the words disown mesorry it had to be you again, old friendfalling into harder times againI see it through to the bitter endthis is bigger than I can stand
it's changed, it's different nowthe seasons come and go and nobody told mehow it gets different nowjust sit and frown while the words disown me
how then can hell be compared to limbo?hour after hour by the phone, the windowif my hands could write a recompense"up in arms" would come to your defensefor all the things it might incurthere's two different things that I know about herwhen you think she's lonely, you phone just to make sure
sorry it had to be you again, old friendfalling into harder times againI see it through to the bitter endthis is bigger than I can stand
the question marks are the parts I'm trying to fill in, although I may have misinterpreted some of the other lines too. I'm American btw.

hour after hour by the phone, the window
Always heard this line as "hour after hour by the phone IN the window"
― ridic beau (NickB), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:18 (fifteen years ago)
I can't see and end to this anonymityhear you damn me with feint praise
ah thanks, these seem so obvious now.
I hear the part before "you may find that it pays" as "in your sudden list of circas", which makes no sense at all. janglepop dudes really need to learn to enunciate better.

They're from Manchester, what do you expect?
― ridic beau (NickB), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)
well I guess you should be thankful that I'm not calling upon people to decipher Fall lyrics.
― administratieve blunder (unregistered), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:26 (fifteen years ago)
Ha!
Listening to it now and it does sound like 'sudden list' of something.

^ live version of 'Heard It All' starts at 4.25 and it's clearly "incline my head to find avoid your gaze"
Still none the wiser on *the mystery* though. Circles?

hmm, that could be it (xpost)! and I definitely hear the "avoid" now.
I don't plan on stalking any ex band members or losing any much sleep over this. it was just bugging me a little.
― administratieve blunder (unregistered), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:59 (fifteen years ago)
("any much", that is)
It's "two or three things I know about her", rather than "two different".

sorry, "an" rather than "and".
― everything, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 19:04 (fifteen years ago)
cool, thanks. that seems about right, though I'm sticking with "back of familiar faces" (right or wrong) because I like it better that way.
― administratieve blunder (unregistered), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 19:09 (fifteen years ago)
Years ago a friend's band covered this song and we went over it tons of times trying to work out the lyrics. The last line there is the only one I'm not 100% sure of. The rest makes decent grammatical and literal sense, whereas the last line is much more poetic/metaphorical, if correct.

Walk out to winter by Aztec camera
― Evil Eau (dog latin), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 19:24 (fifteen years ago)
could it be "subtlest of certains" rather than "sublist"? that makes some sort of sense in an abstract way, and it seems like there should be three syllables there.
I feel like almost all Bodines songs about being alienated from & having trouble communicating with friends. but seeing as I have so much trouble making out the words it's also possible that all their songs about fluorescent unicorns. lyrics aside, I wouldn't like this band nearly as much if they didn't have such a tight (for this kind of music) rhythm section.
