no Do It Today! Looks nice though.

Is this compilation just 11 tracks culled from their singles and LP? That kind of sucks. Since none of their material is yet available on CD and there isn't that much, why not just put out a complete collection? What's the point of 15 euros for an 11 track sampler?

You have point there.

But it's a start I guess...

True. But it seems like a silly release. Anyone who buys it would rather have a fuller collection. And if it's a start, then that just means some label will be prompted to do a fuller rerelease, and this release becomes obsolete. So why as a label put out such a collection -- unless for the expense of a bigger production.

A double disk collection of 7"s / 12"s on one cd and the LP on the other would make sense - obviously if they can get the rights for some of the LP tracks they would be able to obtain it for the others - it's only 7 or so tracks off a complete discography anyway...I mean Maximum Joys output wasn't particually prolific and the LP (apart from the Stretch 12") is their best material - some of that later stuff esp. the 'why can't we live together' 7" is not the strongest of material, and the absence of 'Do It Today!', as someone noted up-thread, is a bad choice considering it is, IMHO, their best 'track', man.

Anyway it's cool to see it being re-issued but at the same time....

Arghh. Same complaint re: Family Fodder.

I.M. (I.M.), Monday, 31 October 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

definitely same complaint about family fodder. i heard 'plant life' for the first time a year ago (b-side to 'the big dig') and couldn't believe it wasn't included on the collection, because it's by far better than everything on the cd.

i don't enjoy best-ofs like that because they destroy the sense of chronology in a band's catalog. it's nice to hear the progression of songs, the a's and the b's. it looked like crippled dick hot wax was doing the a-side from each release and then a track from the lp? is that right?

just sort of funny considering they did a 2cd release of a shitload of peter thomas soundtracks for jerry cotton movies (though it's really good).

I just listened to 'Unlimited (1979-1983)', and it kind of pains me that it's not a complete collection, since this is my first exposure to them. 'Grlz' is wonderful, esp. Nicole Meyer and Dorothy, both of whom I had never heard of before. Can anyone point me in the direction of more likeminded music, I have most of the Ze releases, and a few LTM releases. Does a compilation exist of 99 records?

eighteen years pass...

Silly post but if you enjoy wrong speed type things, this one pitched up by 14% to 106-ish makes for a convincing fake maximum joy...
