A Suggestion

I was looking at everyones answers in the top 3 album of the year thread and there were some artists that I did not recognize and I suspect most other people wouldnt either. So I thought we could make a YSI, or rather a Megaupload(since these files last much much longer than YSI files) thread, where we each make atleast one contribution with an album, released this year, that we think most people havent heard. Do you guys think that's a good idea?

no

meh

i thought this would be a popular idea

*sulks*

Yes. We should start a thread where everybody posts every album they own. Then we should do a skippy cackly dance round the corpse of the record industry.

(N.B. This is not a joke)

The Good Dr. Bill is doing this on *another board*. I thought it might be a good idea here, too.

Oh wait, I misunderstood: maybe not whole albums, but how about a track or two?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 03:28 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, but the idea of putting the whole album up is that since they are mostly unknown albums they might be very hard to find on places like oink and dc++.

and you cant buy every album you're interested in!

Mohammad Iskandar. Electric guitar &/or bouzouk (kind of surf guitarish). Incredible Lebanese rhythms. Very strong lead vocals. Violins.

x-post:

yes, but I think most people think it might be a bad idea to start posting enormous numbers of entire albums on ILM.

why would people object to that? would it take up bandwith or something?

Lovelace (Lovelace), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 03:50 (eighteen years ago) link

ummm... perhaps the fact that it is, you know, illegal, and not everyone is comfortable attracting even MORE attention to ILM with more YSI abuse (which has escalated a lot lately)

well considering that we already have a ysi thread for songs I thought the concensus on this board was that we're okay with downloading.

thanks for the song rockist scientist.

oh, i can say with reasonable confidence that on the aggregate we're all ok with downloading - i don't mean to suggest that we aren't - but we usually have other outlets for that, and the YSI action so far has been mostly recent club tracks and the odd obscurity rather than 'hey let's upload all our favourite albums of this year' type stuff. the john peel thread has also set a dangerous precendent that has already attracted other eyeballs which may not be such a good thing, ya know?

not trying to piss on the parade - honestly - but i see ILM as a place to *discuss* music (recent YSI madness notwithstanding) and then how you then *acquire* said music that piques your interest, well, that's up to you, dig?

fair enough

*hangs head in shame*
