I agree; though they stumbled later on, the first two albums were hugely underrated and wonderful. Much derided for making fun of bands like Sonic Youth. Swell guys, too.

i have one of their early-ish ones...i remember it being good, haven't listened to it in forever....Did they sound kinda like if the Violent Femmes were the Minutemen?

Saw them open for the Meat Puppets in Syracuse once; they were far more entertaining than the Pups that night. They also had great gig posters.

I have one record of theirs -- all I remember is it had a great song with a strrrrupy little guitar moment called "Stop Drop and Roll." OK, looking this up it appears this album is called "Stick It!" and someone recently tried, and failed, to sell it on ebay for $3.50. It is worth $3.50.

four years pass...

i am listening to "Stick It" right now and this is pretty great! it's got a minutemen feel to it, sometimes, a weird offkilter nature...but maybe not so much violent femmes as i said up thread.

it's got that weird thing of the minutemen where it kinda sound like the byrds and nile rogers type guitar playing at the same time...

anyway, this is about as "US 80s underground rock band" as it gets....
