does anyone remember a free magnetic fields tribute 'album' released around '99 or 2000? (i DO NOT mean the much more recent free 'it's meaningless' tribute, which seems to not be online anymore anyway....) the one i need was available on the web as MP3s, with a black and white printable CD cover and whatnot. i downloaded it and burned it to disc back then, but this was before the era of massive and really cheap storage, so back then i didn't keep MP3s around after burning them to disc. i've lost my CD copy. and now i really want to hear it, and i can't find any reference to it online - though i can't actually remember what it was called... but it was pretty decent, the artists were all REALLY unknowns, and one of them was a guy who lived near Binghamton, NY. if anyone can help me on this, it's ILM.

It was called "Verfrumdungseffekt"-and yes, that's a misspelling of "Verfremdungseffekt."

It's so not worth rescuing. (And I say that as someone who actually contributed to the damn thing.)

Here's a zip file with all MP3s and album art (53 MB):

Listening to it now. It's very "lofi." It's amateurish, cute.

Oh hey, Myke from Science Park! I enjoyed your track and later on bought Disinformation because of it.

Thanks Ernest. :-)

and let me revise my previous statement about the unavailability of "it's meaningless" (the more recent tribute) - it now appears to be up and available at http://www.itsmeaningless.com/MFT.html

You're too sweet. I'm proud of that song in particular.

That would indicate why I never saw any royalties. Nobody bought it! LOL.

haha i don't think that would be the (only?) reason! the motorway story seems to have ended in shady circumstances

It was an odd deal, to be sure. Very little communication before and nothing once the actual 7" was released.

getting hold of the records was an absolute nightmare, too. which is a shame, because 90% of what he released was top drawer stuff.

Yeah. I saw the Science Park single on Darla and only a few other places. Personally, It was nice just for the validation of having my stuff available on actual vinyl and on a label that wasn't being run out of my apartment.
