Unless they've changed drastically, what a shitty band.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 12 January 2006 06:15 (twenty years ago)

i like them.

Johnny Fever is right.

In April 2003, I had the displeasure of seeing them open for the White Stripes (who kicked ass!) at The Warfield in SF. Whirlwind Heat's set was a monotonous blur of pseudo-experimental garbage. "Yell out a color and we'll play it!"* *rolls eyes* It seemed like they thought they were really doing something original but it was so bad. Not even in an interesting way either. Even when the guys in WWH were jumping on each other's backs while finishing their set seemed kinda contrived. Like, ooh! look how primitive we are/our music is. Horrendous shite.

WWH = new Devo, my ass!

*Yes, I know that the songs on their debut are named for colors. Still...

Mama Roux, I had the same displeasure in '03 in London. Wow, what a horrendous band.

I recall one of their better lyrics went a-little something like: "A good time to lie / A good time to DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE!"

I laughed at them, and I don't think that was the point.

Of all the bands I've seen in the last however many years, they are far and away the worst. They almost got beat up by some Paul Barman fan.

I actually liked them live. I thought they were energetic and dumb. Then I heard their album, which was unlistenable. It was god fucking awful. And the next time I saw them live, I liked them less.

I'm always suprised to see so much hate for Whirlwind Heat. I've seen them twice...both times were absolutely amazing, even in Austin-TX, where there are shitloads of impressive shows. AND....I love their debut. Didn't care so much for their follow up, 10-minute EP, but hey!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, obviously. I'm just suprised more folks don't love Whirlwind Heat! Did you ever see their video for "Purple?" Excellent too.

thanks to Christopher Costello for pointing out the new record...

ewwwwww. I just checked out "gene pool style" from the upcoming record....bleh. These boys made a great debut....shouldn't have changed direction. I'll still stick by their live show - unless they show up at SXSW this year and put me to sleep.

amen,

Man, I remember assloads of hype for them, even prior to the WS connection, then the biggest, ugliest backlash. Never got around to actually hearing any of their shit; I kinda felt like they'd neither be as good nor as bad as I'd hope and I'd waste my money elsewhere.

Yep, they blow dog.
