Scissor Sisters and Mary Hansen?

My friend says that 'Mary' by the Scissor Sisters was a tribute to Mary Hansen by Jake Shears, as they were best friends. I'm sure he's wrong. Does anybody know for sure?

Jack does introduce this song as being about his best friend Mary, but I strongly doubt that it's Mary Hansen from Stereolab. Part of this is because his biographical info makes this rather implausible, but it's also because I saw them perform this song a year or so back and he dedicated it to her because she was in the room that night.

There's also the fact that "Mary" is gay slang for another gay man, so kinda hard to tell when he's being serious; I think he's said different things at different performances, although my memory's not helping me right now. It's probably more of an all-purpose "things suck, but it's gonna be OK" song.

My initial theory was that it's addressed to a fag hag of his. An unhappy woman hanging out with a gay man, planning a trip around the world some day? What else could it be! He's always going to live to be her man - but STRICTLY in a platonic sense.

I am probably wrong on this.

No that's exactly what I thought it was too. The song seems pretty straightforward (and I am usually shit at figuring out lyrics).
