Culturcide! Is there a chance in hell of "Tacky Souvenirs of Pre-Revolutionary getting a re-release!?!?

The main reason that I put forth this question is because I have never even HEARD the album! And the whole notion of it ever being re-released seems an impossibility, considering (from what I DO know about) that it is made up of stolen pieces of other more famous songs with the band singing their own lyrics on top. All in all the album seemed interesting enough to me, maybe fitting in with my similar tastes in music.

There ya go. I don't think it'll be getting a re-release any time soon.

seems to be available here

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Saturday, 14 January 2006 01:26 (twenty years ago)

Wow. I wonder how they cleared the samples.

Sinister Oink Kingpin (noodle vague), Saturday, 14 January 2006 01:34 (twenty years ago)

WOW!! Thanks a bunch!! It just goes to show that all ya gotta do is ask! Now how about some of Flipper's "Gone Fishin", or anything from No Trend besides their last album, which I already got :)

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Saturday, 14 January 2006 02:36 (twenty years ago)

I have the "Santa Claus Was My Lover/Depressed Christmas" 45 from these guys. I keep hoping it's going to show up in the "Crazy prized vinyl on e-bay" thread someday.

Total classic. The best part of the record is that their versions of the songs take over the old ones in my brain, saving me from the true horror of their real form.

And those aren't samples. They're straight up cheap karaoke theft of the entire song, I think they just blare their overmodulated vocals over the track.

BTW, thanks to Noodle. I have this on vinyl and hadn't digitized it yet.

I'll work on the No Trend but it will take a few hours. Good excuse to digitize that sucker.

sleeve (sleeve), Saturday, 14 January 2006 18:18 (twenty years ago)

The thread.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 15 January 2006 00:45 (twenty years ago)

"they're not the world", classic. The funny thing is that after being able to hear this album I too was hoping that these versions would take over the originals in my head.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 16 January 2006 18:29 (twenty years ago)

well.. I don't know what unstuffing is( I have'nt even owned a computer for that long)I just know that it says that it won't support the codec used to compress the file. If it is too much trouble then don't worry, I still greatly appreciate that you tried to get it to me.

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Monday, 16 January 2006 21:05 (twenty years ago)

Allright!! I actually unstuffed the No Trend!!Thank you sleeve once again and thank you Sinister Oink Kingpin for the Culturcide! These albums will surely become all time favorites!

CD reissue of the Tacky Souvenirs Of Pre-Revolutionary America LP and the Santa Claus Was My Lover/Depressed Christmas 7". Highly Recommended!

What's this like??? I' just checking out No Trend for the first time, actually. Is this related somehow?

ZOT! (davidcorp), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 08:11 (twenty years ago)

I've already got this on CD so I assume this is the 2nd time it's been reissued?

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 09:29 (twenty years ago)

ZOT, it is demented noisy karaoke versions of horrible 80's hits. No real relation to No Trend music-wise, but they share a certain antisocial attitude. The key difference is that they sing their own lyrics over the tunes, so for the bridge of "Dancing In The Dark" we have...

"we sit around getting older
listening to Bruce's new LP
dig the glorification
of our own passivity"

I love this record to death, as I said upthread. I'd recommend it to anyone with even a cursory interest in culture jamming.

sleeve (sleeve), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 19:16 (twenty years ago)

I have been listening to this album nonstop everyday. It is so fucking good.
It makes me want to yell at parked cars and ATMs outside the virgin megastore.

peteribsen, Wednesday, 17 May 2006 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Riding in the car with my dad, Culturcide on the stereo. I make no comment.

"Jesus... What the hell are we listening to?"

"Do we have to listen to this?"

"Yeah, it's great for when I want to be actively annoyed by the stereo."

Copies of the reissue now in stock at Rough Trade, folks. Hugely recommended; pretty much the missing link between John Oswald and Negativland but with extra added political sharpness. "We're Not The World" is particularly astounding and OTM. Great improv trombone throughout, whoever the player was.

Excellent stuff, to me. Maybe a deluxe version will be released now, to top the reissue. I just wanted to revive a great thread heh

That CD reissue on Grey Matter was a boot, of course. I used to know the folks who put it out. Same people did the Jim Jones People's Temple CD.
