Oh no, they've gone all PFork on us!

Jibé (Jibé), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:21 (twenty years ago)

"gone all"

(sorry Will et al.)

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

ahhh thats not so good

Hairy Asshurt (Toaster), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Oh dear. Not anything like as nice to look at as the old site.

Bill A (Bill A), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:33 (twenty years ago)

i quite like the font at the top

but i think there should be some colors in the formatting otherwise it just kind of blurs together

Hairy Asshurt (Toaster), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:35 (twenty years ago)

The problem for me is that the fonts and pictures are quite light and delicate and the ads have much stronger colours, so my eye gets inexorably drawn to the big orange ad in the middle, not the content.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:39 (twenty years ago)

I agree - previously the layout made it obvious where the music was, where the movies were, the features etc. Now it's jumbled and samey. I miss the pictures of album covers too.

Bill A (Bill A), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:45 (twenty years ago)

but now there are visual priorities! (everything was too democratic before, imo)

sympathy for the underdog (blackmail.is.my.life), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:46 (twenty years ago)

this looks SO MUCH BETTER than the previous site design. i kinda hate the ad right in the middle of all that content [it looks so lonely] but eh, they have bills to pay.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:50 (twenty years ago)

it's the lemon-red memorial ad! i think it looks great, esp. now that the stycast and stypod have been incorporated into the front page! the turntable is still an orphan, alas.

sympathy for the underdog (blackmail.is.my.life), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:56 (twenty years ago)

it looks exactly like pitchfork. i guess that was the idea.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:57 (twenty years ago)

it looks exactly like _insert online zine here_. oh and i lied about the turntable; it's right there, bottom left!

sympathy for the underdog (blackmail.is.my.life), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:00 (twenty years ago)

I miss the album covers too

Hairy Asshurt (Toaster), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:00 (twenty years ago)

I don't care for the design, but I did enjoy the first installment of WBS's article.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:03 (twenty years ago)

needs a bit more colour

it doesn't really look esp. like pitchfork. countless sites use grey text on white

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:27 (twenty years ago)

the turntable [news] section - should also be rss headline displayed on the front page

in terms of information design - the adverts on the left side is not a good idea, it's annoying to the eye

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:40 (twenty years ago)

yeah the left is the first place most people look - better to keep the ads to the right i'd say

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:42 (twenty years ago)

God, that's terrible. Just terrible. Why do they want to be Pitchfork with less shitty NYC indie?

Dom P. giving that Australian Idol fatboy's single an 8 is a lot more offensive than the layout mind you.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:45 (twenty years ago)

no links section - the web is not an isolated information island.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:50 (twenty years ago)

shitty NYC indie?

Esteban, I'm surprised at your tautology.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:52 (twenty years ago)

i see the stypod deleted their fairly comprehensive list of mp3 blogs. good luck getting traffic to the new page fellas.

titty sanskrit (sanskrit), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:52 (twenty years ago)

What are they going to link to? A million blogs with the same Girls Aloud mp3s?

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:53 (twenty years ago)

roffles

titty sanskrit (sanskrit), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

i see the stypod deleted their fairly comprehensive list of mp3 blogs. good luck getting traffic to the new page fellas.

As much as I hate to say it, this is pretty OTM. Though I'll def. keep my link as long as the Stypod continues to be intermittently brilliant.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 14:07 (twenty years ago)

That advert in the middle of the page is criminal for how badly it fsuks the layout. Move that and it wouldn't look so Pitchfork-lite (all-over the place and thoughtless. That site is a headache to look at).

I suppose this layout looks more up to date, I still think the old one had more clarity though.

fandango (fandango), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 14:28 (twenty years ago)

surely there's no reason why i need to delete this one, right?

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:08 (twenty years ago)

much better - that greenish brown color was really a downer. there was some sort of greenish brown color right? beige? a little more visual hierarchy in the text would make it easier to read. also, larger editorial images to balance out the ads might be good.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:10 (twenty years ago)

funny they would pay for a redesign but not bother to changes their meta tags. Google still comes up with:

Daily online magazine that features many avant garde album reviews.

titty sanskrit (sanskrit), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Is it me or has the Album of the Week thing disappeared? It was always amusing to go and read the comments and see people whine because the album in question was either too well known or totally unknown and another album should have been chosen.

Jibé (Jibé), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

now under this section:

So the "Album Of The Week" feature is deprecated into the archives then?

And I'm still unclear as to the rationale behind albums ending up hanging around in that Recent Music Reviews box...

That advert *really* needs to live at the bottom of the features column, it's obnoxious right now.

fandango (fandango), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Thumbs up.

save the robot (save the robot), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:01 (twenty years ago)

Not a design observation, but the comments under the Strokes review make me want to punch things.

disco violence (disco violence), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 17:18 (twenty years ago)

Be thankful Pitchfork doesn't have a comments box (although maybe they should).

fandango (fandango), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 17:25 (twenty years ago)

I love the new design, except for the lack of album covers. Please, add those back.

Mickey (modestmickey), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Any other jerks out there use adblock with firefox? The entire left side of the page disappears! Now I just need to hack it to collapse that column and I'm set...

But seriously, what's with all the table layout stuff?

mike h. (mike h.), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 17:41 (twenty years ago)

this looks so much better. i always avoided the main page, but this is actually readable.

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 18:29 (twenty years ago)

It looks better, but am I the only one who thinks the logo looks like a tit?

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 18:56 (twenty years ago)

I have to admit it is at least better than this:

http://www.stylus.com/

öROXYMUZAKö (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 19:58 (twenty years ago)

hey!, that's pretty ugly.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 21:11 (twenty years ago)

...actually, i kind of like it. ignore my post above.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 21:13 (twenty years ago)

It's nearly good... but the adverts make it too fussy.

Leeroy, Tuesday, 17 January 2006 21:45 (twenty years ago)
