the Wee Papa Girl Rappers

(I loved "Heat It Up"!)

Of course, The Sequence rock.

Dom iNut (donut), Thursday, 19 January 2006 17:51 (twenty years ago)

and the J.J. Fad album was a nice final blast of the mid-80s electro-sounds from the Dre/Ruthless camp a la World Class Wreckin' Cru... "Supersonic" is great, but the rest of the album is even better.

Dom iNut (donut), Thursday, 19 January 2006 17:52 (twenty years ago)

jj fad - supersonic
salt n pepa - push it
tlc - no scrubs/waterfalls

Loved the first Northern State, thought the second was blah. Liked "Camel Toe" from Fannypack but never heard the rest of the disc.

Brian O'Neill (NYCNative), Thursday, 19 January 2006 18:08 (twenty years ago)

24-K's "Don't Go There" did FannyPack first and better.

Eazy-E

Confounded (Confounded), Thursday, 19 January 2006 18:54 (twenty years ago)

Confounded = Tim Dog

(although I like the idea of Eazy-E being the Nick Gilder of hip-hop)

Dom iNut (donut), Thursday, 19 January 2006 18:58 (twenty years ago)

"Cars With The Boom"

R. J. Greene, Thursday, 19 January 2006 19:03 (twenty years ago)

jaime, Friday, 20 January 2006 08:01 (twenty years ago)

I'm confused. Is there some definition of 'girly' ppl are using or is this just a thread listing female rappers? Because I don't really think of Gangsta Boo as being 'girly.'

Sequence.

M.C Lyte.

Tarrie B on Ruthless.

Lady Of Rage.

Heather B.

That Champain chick who's down with 45 King.

Most of the rappers from the midwest who are supposedly male who Nate Patrin enjoys.

PIANO $AMPLE$, Friday, 20 January 2006 12:51 (twenty years ago)

Dom: That's some bullshit about JJ Fad. Supersonic is the only decent song on that album; that's why they do it twice. The rest of it's pretty weak, even for the time period. That was one of my big disappointments the last time I bought vinyl. (And all I remember from the Wee Papas Girls was a track on a CMJ called "Wee Rule" that was decent.)

No one's mentioned the Real Roxanne?

js (honestengine), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

ooh, a list thread! ;)

others not mentioned yet:

Sweet Tee
Ice Cream Tee
Gillette

my friend just gave me a mix tape with this Prince Paul remix of a Cookie Crew song...fucking amazing! It's got a Cookie Monster sample on the hook that goes "Yummy yummy cookies!"
Trust me, the original mix is 10x better!

Only the first TLC album qualifies for this thread

Shit! I forgot Monie Love!

Jeff: YSI? You got me piqued!

js (honestengine), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

I only have it on vinyl, but I'll try and sort something out for y'all.

*adds to long list of songs on analogue formats that I've promised ILMers I'll digitise once I get my own PC*

Jeff W (zebedee), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:47 (twenty years ago)

hmmm... lets switch this thread to talk about real female rappers instead of novelty rap!

Gangsta Boo
La Chat
Diamond and Princess from Crime Mob
Jha Jha of The Diplomats

ez, Friday, 20 January 2006 16:53 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

I need some girly rap that's not novelty but also not girls trying to channel male rappers. E.g., Brassy or the Do's Queen Dot Kong. Fresh and near-zero thug content.
