I know nothing about jazz-funk. this song has a chorus that says something about 'my love is like the ice, my love is like the fire' or something. the guy on the radio said it was a classic...

further to identification, if I liked this, what else will I like?

Sorry I can't help you with the lyric, I'll post if I can remember it. As far jazz funk, the best start is Herbie Hancocks "Headhunters" and "Thrust" albums. Also check Stevie Wonder "Songs In The Key Of Life" for something more commercial.

Donald Byrd - Think Twice (on Stepping Into Tomorrow LP, 1975)
"Your love's like fire and ice"

if you liked that song check out everything by the Mizell Brothers: more Donald Byrd, Gary Bartz, Bobbi Humphrey, Johnny Hammond, etc
also, good recommendations in this thread:
