I'm hearing this on the grapevine. Is it true? I kinda hope not.

tolstoy (tolstoy), Saturday, 21 January 2006 20:33 (twenty years ago)

Yes. They already announced it last December. It's going to be called Part Two. See their website for more info. (I believe a promo version was sold at their New Year's show in Berlin)

StanM (StanM), Saturday, 21 January 2006 20:38 (twenty years ago)

...very friendly...

jonathon, Saturday, 21 January 2006 21:30 (twenty years ago)

What, my reply? OK, it was a bit short and to the point, but real TG fans can handle a lot more aggression! :-)

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 22 January 2006 01:51 (twenty years ago)

Wreckers of civilization still.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 January 2006 01:53 (twenty years ago)

who is sleazy calling?

HAKKEBOFFER (eman), Sunday, 22 January 2006 02:08 (twenty years ago)

Cutest band ever.

Battle Raver II (noodle vague), Sunday, 22 January 2006 02:12 (twenty years ago)

Chris still looks very young, doesn't he?

ratty, Sunday, 22 January 2006 03:03 (twenty years ago)

Genesis has aged nicely.

Sleazy's always been my favorite, though.

vartman (novaheat), Sunday, 22 January 2006 03:22 (twenty years ago)

"...very friendly..."

from the first annual report

jonathon, Sunday, 22 January 2006 04:02 (twenty years ago)

Sleazy's the man.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 22 January 2006 04:05 (twenty years ago)

well, Gen certainly isn't (these days)

HAKKEBOFFER (eman), Sunday, 22 January 2006 04:34 (twenty years ago)

old TG looks like 1000 times cooler than young TG. on one of the website's photos Sleazy is wearing one of those t-shirts you get your dad for his birthday saying "Fifty- the ultimate F-word." that cannot be beat by any custom camoflauge.

deru, Sunday, 22 January 2006 06:01 (twenty years ago)

I'm with deru. Here's to the old timers.

Silver Coffee (Bimble...), Sunday, 22 January 2006 06:22 (twenty years ago)

Hmm... as an 'old timer' who was there I find this news disappointing. This cynical marketing of the TG brand sits ill with their own rhetoric, but hey, where there's money to be made, eh. I guess Gen's cosmetic surgery bills don't come cheap.

Sleazy's talking to their agent.

that 2006 TG pic makes them look like a Live News Team

jonathon, Sunday, 22 January 2006 14:39 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
I love it! Takes some time to get going, but around the song "Almost a Kiss" it totally takes off.

This looks like a sitcom about college kids. Maybe a that 70s show type thing about Thatcher era UK?

JW, Monday, 16 April 2007 02:33 (nineteen years ago)

L-R: Vyvyan, Neil, Mike, Rick

Maybe not...I don't know anything about their personalities.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 16 April 2007 03:10 (nineteen years ago)

Scarily enough I believe it was Simon Reynolds who specifically compared Genesis to Neil at one point.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 16 April 2007 03:14 (nineteen years ago)

Genesis = FEZ

JW, Monday, 16 April 2007 03:50 (nineteen years ago)

Wreckers of Civilization is a bargain at twice the price.

Display Name, Monday, 16 April 2007 05:25 (nineteen years ago)

they're always smiling! totally up to no good.

vahid wreckers is a great book.

strongohulkington, Monday, 16 April 2007 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

cosi was such the secret weapon in that band. it's great to hear her guitar + horn work again on the new album.

when talking about US dates, they said cosi + genesis have health problems that limits their travel, what's up with that?

Edward III, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

gen had a serious bout with pnuemonia recently, dunno about cosi

sexyDancer, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

did a little poking around, apparently cosey's had some serious heart problems in the past few years, arrhythmia brought on by exertion.

Edward III, Monday, 16 April 2007 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

Display Name OTM

brightscreamer, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 04:57 (nineteen years ago)

it is also a bitch to get visas into the US. Being TG doesn't make it any easier; I can only imagine what their files look like.

Display Name, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 05:04 (nineteen years ago)

First track on new TG pretty much pwns the rest of the record. If the whole album was that good, then they'd be making grosser, scarier, more amazing music than any of the current noize bands. Would loved to have seen then come back and totally annihilate the scene, but i'm glad to settle for partial annihilation.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 05:06 (nineteen years ago)

but what about when "rabbit snare" starts and you're like how'd this soft jazz get in my throbbing gristle and then it ends up being as creepy as anything they've done? the album peters out after a while, would've been perfect at 45 minutes. still astonishing for a band with such a legacy to come back after so long and log such a coherent statement.

what I love about the album is its genrelessness. I guess you could call it ambient electronic but that's doesn't really capture the grit and personality. not easy to put yr finger on what they're up to but it's compelling.

Edward III, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

doesn't genesis live in NY?

QuantumNoise, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

when i was writing about it, the one thing that struck me is that tg is still committed, more or less, to being a band that writes songs, and that's really what separates them from the current noize crew.

strongohulkington, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

like the opening track is awesome sample schizophonia and can more than easily throw bows again nautical almanac and farmers manual both, but it's hard to imagine either of those groups (great as they are) writing something like "rabbit snare" or "almost a kiss."

strongohulkington, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...

I'll probably have a spare ticket to their Tate Modern show tomorrow. Email me if y're interested in coming along. But you'll have to email me before four as my home internet is bust.

Raw Patrick, Friday, 25 May 2007 11:12 (nineteen years ago)

Enjoy the show and report back to us. The new album is most wonderful.

"Rabbit Snare" is intensely extraordinary. I shall have to hear the rest.

Bimble, Sunday, 1 July 2007 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

did anyone make the tate show? i was pretty unimpressed by the jarman soundtrack during the second half with the choir, it seemed a bit directionless and the visuals were dull (apart from the creepy ass shots of a chapel, filmed from behind the long grass) but then i was completely sober unfortunately. they are still the greatest band in the world though. got to meet gen after the show, he is such a sweetheart.

creme1, Monday, 2 July 2007 23:45 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, y'all! I have two extra tickets for Saturday's show in Chicago...want to come with?

batmeh (brightscreamer), Thursday, 23 April 2009 03:10 (seventeen years ago)

Gah, if only you posted that 23 days ago instead of minutes! will be there for Sunday's show, whee!

Ivan, Thursday, 23 April 2009 03:34 (seventeen years ago)

BUMP

batmeh (brightscreamer), Thursday, 23 April 2009 12:06 (seventeen years ago)

Does no one want tickets to the show on Saturday? I'm not scalping them, guys. I'm gifting them.

batmeh (brightscreamer), Thursday, 23 April 2009 22:36 (seventeen years ago)

three years pass...

I'm listening to Desertshore now - it arrived in the post this morning. It sounds beautiful, understated, unsettling. It's dense and it will take some unravelling but I like it a lot. The Antony and Mark Almond tunes sound great - Cosey's songs too.

This hasn't got much attention around ILM, is it not a fan of TG?

kraudive, Sunday, 25 November 2012 00:07 (thirteen years ago)

mine is gonna take a while to arrive, but I pre-ordered this. excited by your description, I love Cosey's stuff on the Carter Tutti material.

sleeve, Sunday, 25 November 2012 00:42 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, it sounds good. I'm listening to The Final Report now and it is lovely. The vibe is similar to the Feral Vapours record - lots of Cosey's horn. I'm listening quietly with headphones but it seems like there's a good bit of bass as well. Some Gristlizer action obv.

I'm confused about Gen's relationship with the Desertshore record. He was involved in the initial live recordings ICA sessions (I think!) but then his input seems to have either been discarded or just forgotten - he isn't mentioned at all in the notes with the vinyl release.

kraudive, Sunday, 25 November 2012 01:00 (thirteen years ago)

tush - sorry, s/he

kraudive, Sunday, 25 November 2012 01:04 (thirteen years ago)

Really looking forward to this. I heard recordings of the final X-TG shows and was wanting more.

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 25 November 2012 01:33 (thirteen years ago)

x/post - there was a very public spat between Gen and Chris/Cosey on Twitter about the album..
