kirsty's "they don't know" is one of my fave songs of all time in either her or tracey's version (which are actually identical tracks with different lead vocals swapped in). kirsty's vocals measurably improved morrissey's solo career. kirsty's vocals measurably improved one of the greatest xmas songs of all time. kirsty did lots of other good stuff and lots of not-so-good stuff too.

Unfortunately Kirsty MacColl passed away several years ago after an accident (I believe it was a boating accident).

The jaded auto-hipster in me initially shrieked in horror at the comparison, and I can understand others' more measured opinions after reading other answering here...
...but I will never be personally convinced of Cindi Lauper's talents standing next to Kirsty MacColl for songwriting or vocal firepower. "Time After Time," sure, if that's your cuppa, but "Titanic Days" takes it in a pinch, and there's nothing to match "They Don't Know." And those harmonies!
