Anyone heard it yet? I know its around cause Sasha Frere Jones says the whole album is good. And the FADER mag wrote about the song on their blog.

Duedddd, Friday, 13 January 2006 18:48 (twenty years ago)

No. But I know that I love it

Michael Costello, Friday, 13 January 2006 18:51 (twenty years ago)

pls send press release. on second thought, no.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:01 (twenty years ago)

someone YSI it

jeff rosenberg (pukeandburn), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:05 (twenty years ago)

I'd love to hear this "altrock acoustic anthem bonkeration!" (That, according to the Fader!) And a Diplo remix? What?

mcd (mcd), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:08 (twenty years ago)

And a Diplo remix? What?

they're hipsters. what's to "what?"

marc h. (marc h.), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:25 (twenty years ago)

they're hipsters. what's to "what?"
I was going to say WTF, but then I thought, he's a pitchforker, so what's to "WTF?"

hipster, Friday, 13 January 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Hipsters love Diplo and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! OMFG this guys a genius right here! Your observations are so keane! you should be a cultural commentator!

drunkat232, Friday, 13 January 2006 19:33 (twenty years ago)

i just meant what's so unusual about a band that knows what's fashionable selecting a fashionable remixer? sorry about the use of a loaded term

marc h. (marc h.), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:37 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps they just like Diplo's music? Is that possible?

hipster, Friday, 13 January 2006 19:38 (twenty years ago)

aww, raw nerves. i was just answering mcd's question -- "a diplo remix? what?" -- with a big "what's to what?"

anyway, back to the album...

marc h. (marc h.), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:41 (twenty years ago)

Typical.

hipster, Friday, 13 January 2006 19:45 (twenty years ago)

nick?

marc h. (marc h.), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:53 (twenty years ago)

rog?

eedd, Friday, 13 January 2006 20:01 (twenty years ago)

HAHA. I'm thinking Nick Sylvester would exhibit the same attitude - i.e. automatically assuming that artists popular with young/attractive etc people are somehow airheaded and image obsessed and not "real" enough to make decisions based on what they want their music to sound like.

hipster, Friday, 13 January 2006 20:05 (twenty years ago)

meant nick z! though perhaps you're projecting

marc h. (marc h.), Friday, 13 January 2006 20:06 (twenty years ago)

i miss nickalicious, he wouldn't have thought such things. he probably would have said something about ween instead.

Actually, whichever Nick it is has got nothing to do with calling you out on indie snobbery BS. Do you even understand why this statment: a band that knows what's fashionable selecting a fashionable remixer is objectionable? Will you come down off your high horse for two seconds and concede that maybe they just like Diplo's work? Or is that beyond the capacity of the indie mindset?

hipster, Friday, 13 January 2006 21:45 (twenty years ago)

everyone is missing the elephant in the room

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 January 2006 21:45 (twenty years ago)

that this is spam, jess? my 2nd post was sarcastic.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 13 January 2006 21:49 (twenty years ago)

Do street teamers regularly cite SFJ???

hipster, Friday, 13 January 2006 21:52 (twenty years ago)

a band that knows what's fashionable selecting a fashionable remixer

= not such a ridiculous statement! It's smart marketing and even the coolest most artistic types actually think like that and it's OK! Nick and Karen can be sitting around going "we like diplo, let's use diplo" or the could be sitting around going "diplo's hot, lets use him" and either way...it's OK!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 13 January 2006 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Do street teamers regularly cite SFJ???

um, yes?

literalisp (literalisp), Friday, 13 January 2006 22:12 (twenty years ago)

really???

and
xpost:
True, but to always assume that it's the latter is a typically indie assumption, no? I mean, I never said that is not the case, it's just that Marc states it like it's a known fact - which it isn't.

hipster, Friday, 13 January 2006 23:03 (twenty years ago)

YYY's street team would never endorse the term 'bonkeration'. Don't they know their own band?

mcd (mcd), Saturday, 14 January 2006 01:39 (twenty years ago)

i wrote this post. i want to hear the song. btw...what does "bonkeration" even mean?

Duedddd, Saturday, 14 January 2006 01:45 (twenty years ago)

That band is BONKERS!

nancyboy (nancyboy), Saturday, 14 January 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

i misread that as "bonkerathon," which somehow seemed more pleasant.

i don't understand the outrage over marc's being nonplussed with the choice of diplo. i had the exact same reaction - "ah, of course." i mean, that's what you do when you have some money and want your album to do well in different circles - you farm out remixes to whoever's hot right now. i don't see a major difference between this and "we like his work." maybe pink likes peaches and peaches likes pink. who cares?

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Saturday, 14 January 2006 16:41 (twenty years ago)

Diplo's comissioned remixes kinda suck, although I like him in general.

Eppy (Eppy), Saturday, 14 January 2006 19:10 (twenty years ago)

That said, I agree that there being a Diplo remix of a YYYs song doesn't seem exceptional in any way whatsoever. I would like to hear it, but I would like the hear the actual album way more.

Eppy (Eppy), Saturday, 14 January 2006 19:13 (twenty years ago)

i heard diplo doesn't credit the yeah yeah yeahs on his remix of them

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Saturday, 14 January 2006 19:57 (twenty years ago)

I havent. Its gonna take alot from the YYY's to impress me. I dont find Karen O charming, sorry

Hahababe, Sunday, 15 January 2006 08:05 (twenty years ago)

I think I like them more than the Kills (but then, I just hate hate hate the Kills...)

snowballing (snowballing), Sunday, 15 January 2006 10:37 (twenty years ago)

There's a version of the Diplo remix available on AOL music right now...you can stream his performance at the Guggenheim (spelled right?)..wherein he starts off his performance w/the Gold Lion remix (and says it's his remix of they're song in the middle of the track). It's a great track..very Siouxsie-ish vocal tracks.

terrance, Wednesday, 25 January 2006 15:44 (twenty years ago)

very Siouxsie-ish vocal tracks

Shocking.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 15:49 (twenty years ago)

ya..but even more so than before, at least in the remix version

terrance, Wednesday, 25 January 2006 16:42 (twenty years ago)

Haven't found the un-remixed version yet, but here's the Diplo thing: http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1ANS7GN7JRUUC238L2BFIMEO50

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 03:32 (twenty years ago)

TommmyBoy009, Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:13 (twenty years ago)

Go to the interpolnyc.com forum. In the non=interpol music section got o the yyy's thread. The normal version of "Gold Lion" and another new song can be downloaded...

margaret, Tuesday, 14 February 2006 07:20 (twenty years ago)

Thank you, Margaret.

Thanks, Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:01 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking this was a big dud in relation to the Diplo remix until is suddenly goes BASH BASH BASH right near the end.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:10 (twenty years ago)

the new single sucks.yeah yeah yeah's are considerd dead for me.
one big step towards mainstream indie boredom.
but thats life isnt it..

philly, Friday, 17 February 2006 04:11 (twenty years ago)

bland as dry toast...it'll be a huge hit

Space Is the Place (Space Is the Place), Friday, 17 February 2006 14:00 (twenty years ago)

at least Top 10 of ILM's singles for 2006

Space Is the Place (Space Is the Place), Friday, 17 February 2006 14:00 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
OK, I'm going to completely skip past most of this thread which seems to be about nothing at all related to "Gold Lion," which I just heard for the first time thanks to good old Launch.com. It's not bad at all! Maybe I'm the "mainstream indie boredom" they are reaching for, I don't know, but I have never been much impressed by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs before (although incessant karaoke performances of "Y Control" by a couple of friends of mine kind of sold me on that one)...this is actually pleasant enough to want to hear it again. Who knew what they needed was to sound more like Hole, and playing "Play That Funky Music White Boy" through a Commodore 64 filter? It works for me.
