Is it ok for Kraftwerk to be fleeced by Coldplay?

i think a few other people may also have sampled them over the years.

Are they being fleeced? OK, they're both on EMI, but I don't think that automatically means no licensing deal was made.

True, but this is not sampling, this is basing your main album track and new single around an already known and well-loved riff and then warbling nonsense over the top while sitting back and laughing at how gullible your fans are. Isn't it?

That's not as bad as sampling direct [/rockist]

It's not sampling because they're playing the melody on crappy old guitars - Kraftwerk are getting paid for this I assume

Since it's Coldplay - fuck no.

Is "Talk" the song with the Kraftwerk riff? What Kraftwerk song is it taken from?

Mugged Outside the Jabberjaw, 1993 (Bent Over at the Arclight), Friday, 13 January 2006 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, the song is Computer Love from Computerworld.

I don't overly care, and maybe Coldplay are doing them a favour - they've just made one new fan anyway - It just seems a bit lazy to me - they are a capable, if dull pop band and Kraftwerks music, in my opinion, deserves better, if only out of professional courtesy.

Does anybody actually have X&Y? What are the writing credits for this track? Are Kraftwerk mentioned?

I don't know, but I believe so. This was covered in another thread.
