Like the following:

Milli Vanilli
Well, you all know the story anyway

Andrew Ridgeley
Well, OK, I guess he provided the occasional guitar solo then

Paul Rutherford
He didn't sing nor play any instrument nor write songs. Yet, he was an important part of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's image

Jason Orange
Joined Take That because he was a good dancer. And, basically, that's what his contribution to Take That consisted of.

Forgot about

Sid Vicious
Joined Pistols after Glenn Matlock was kicked for being a decent musician. Did sometimes play the bass at gigs (unless they made sure to have the bass turned down). Matlock still played the bass on their records though.

Bez

StanM (StanM), Friday, 13 January 2006 14:03 (twenty years ago)

The Wikipedia entry for Bez includes this paragraph:

The British popular music newspaper the New Musical Express (NME) carried a series of articles about famous members of bands whose musical contribution to their bandmates' success was negligible. The newspaper used the name "Bez" as a generic label for the likes of Chas Smash of Madness, Linda McCartney in Wings, and Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Paul Rutherford.

True. Fletch belongs here. Fletch is an important part of the social relationships within the bands, but musically it's all Martin and Dave (after Alan left - he did provide a lot after all)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 13 January 2006 14:12 (twenty years ago)

Oi! He did the accounts onstage! Anyone who's ever been in a band knows how important this is!

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Friday, 13 January 2006 14:17 (twenty years ago)

When I saw The Dwarves last summer, they had a guy with them in a suit who stood next to the stage wearing a wrestler's mask the whole time. When his cue came, he put on a motorcycle helmet, was set alight, burned for half a minute (during song about a burning man, I suppose), was put out, left.

That guy.

StanM (StanM), Friday, 13 January 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

Jim Jam from Sirius Trixon and the Motor City Bad Boys. He would just pose in a leather jacket and shade, leaning on the front of a pink cadillac drum riser. I wish I could find a picture, he looked really ridiculous.

During their "ZIllionaire" phase, David Yarritu and Eden didn't do anything in ABC. No, wait, I guess they did contribute spoken bits, such as Eden's demands that we kiss her snatch.
