I liked their first five song EP, and in the process of hearing this album for the first time. I like it so far, but their name is brilliant and I'm hoping this is a Goth record as we can never have enough of those. ;-)

BeeOK (boo radley), Sunday, 22 January 2006 10:58 (twenty years ago)

i haven't heard this band, but a lot of people seem to really like the name and i can't see the appeal of it...

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 22 January 2006 11:07 (twenty years ago)

i had a dream about this band last night for somee reason, even though I have no idea what they look like or sound like, in my dream they were a bar band

hmmmmmm, Sunday, 22 January 2006 16:08 (twenty years ago)

this record's going to be huge...
i don't know if i'd call it straight goth, but they've definitely listened to their fair share of Joy Division and Bauhaus, etc....

fwiw, I like it more than Interpol which culls from the same pile...

bobby.lasers (bobby.lasers), Sunday, 22 January 2006 16:41 (twenty years ago)

while i like this album and the 1st EP, did anyone hear that 12" they did for Artikal Records? it was horrible

pinder (pinder), Sunday, 22 January 2006 17:49 (twenty years ago)

terrible name, you can just imagine how very very pleased they were with themselves when they chose it.

fandango (fandango), Sunday, 22 January 2006 17:51 (twenty years ago)

i love you but ive chosen dorkness.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Sunday, 22 January 2006 17:52 (twenty years ago)

I Love You Squirtle, but Pikachu, I Choose You.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Sunday, 22 January 2006 17:58 (twenty years ago)

I Don't Love You But Can I Fuck You Anyway would've been so much better. i bet that was taken

rizzx (Rizz), Sunday, 22 January 2006 18:00 (twenty years ago)

cheap shots on the name. that first ep is so, so fucking good.

theghostrobot (theghostrobot), Sunday, 22 January 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

The malevolent naming influence of Godspeed What The Fuck Ever and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah continues to cut a bloody swathe across musical humanity.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 January 2006 19:34 (twenty years ago)

i did not make up the joke name, thats what some friends of mine in austin call them.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Sunday, 22 January 2006 20:43 (twenty years ago)

and for the record, i went to see them at SXSW this year. they were alright.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Sunday, 22 January 2006 20:43 (twenty years ago)

erg, last, not this.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Sunday, 22 January 2006 20:44 (twenty years ago)

And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Ned....

fandango (fandango), Sunday, 22 January 2006 20:57 (twenty years ago)

This album is great, I wonder if it will be looked over this year?

BeeOK (boo radley), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 12:07 (twenty years ago)

It's less likely to be looked over than overlooked, methinks. The name's funny but they seemed to have exhausted all of their wit on it.

Pick the member who will be "ditched" once they hit the big time...

Godspeed You Repetitive Bastards!
(must confess a friend came up with that one)

Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 15:55 (twenty years ago)

i would say none of them...

Death Cab was on SNL, and I mean have you ever really looked at Ben Gibbard straight on?

Not exactly the old idea of rock star....

then again: Meatloaf.

bobby.lasers (bobby.lasers), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Well they sure have a name to pinch your nose at but man I have heard about 5 songs so far and my usual skepticism regarding new bands has left me, they sure do sound fantastic.

Bimble brings a lawn chair to antartica so he can sit and drink silver coff (Bim, Sunday, 5 February 2006 11:19 (twenty years ago)

euphoric epic pop rock

i reckon deethelurker will luv this track

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Were the Comsat Angels any good? (I Love You But I've Chosen An Unweildy Name Likely To Be Resentfully Mocked By Music Writers Forced To Spell Out Full First And Last Reference Due To Their Stupid Style Guide seems to be a little too precious for my tastes).

js (honestengine), Monday, 6 February 2006 19:46 (twenty years ago)

I like their name, actually.

Comsat Angels To Be Reissued
http://www.cmj.com/articles/display_article.php?id=9047288

fit in alongside other gloomy, yet atmospheric acts of the time like the Cure, Joy Division, and the Chameleons and much of the current crop of neo-post-punkers (Bloc Party, Interpol, etc.); guitarist Stephen Fellows has also gained some cult notoriety for influencing the playing style of U2 guitarist The Edge.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 6 February 2006 20:08 (twenty years ago)

This band is amazing, behold the sound of them.

Especially if you like comsat angels.

all those crapppy Joy Division copyists, tied to corporate money, tell them to go to hell. Why don't they make bands like this anymore?

I've got a scuzzfox and I'm gonna use it (Bimble...), Sunday, 19 February 2006 08:40 (twenty years ago)

I Love You But I've...hopefully chosen a better name?

Get album and yeah I meant overlooked, must of been drunk again.

BeeOK (boo radley), Sunday, 19 February 2006 10:10 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
The first half of this record is the best thing the relatively lame post punk revival has produced since Turn On The Bright Lights

I Love You But I've Chosen To Listen To The Darkness

chad (chad), Friday, 7 April 2006 07:25 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
I think I like this band. Bimble once again in sharing my tastes.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 3 May 2006 19:48 (twenty years ago)

Cool!! They're actually playing here in Seattle very soon and it's only like $8. Of course actually finding the insignificant building in the university where it is will be a chore. I think it's kindof funny they're not even playing a proper club, but I guess that proves how indie or rather - *not* indie they are. I signed up for their mailing list awhile back but have yet to receive a single email, not even about the gig (tour?). Lazy bastards!

honorary joy division roadie (Bimble...), Friday, 5 May 2006 00:27 (twenty years ago)

eight years pass...

New song (and album coming) after way too many years...

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 12 August 2014 18:56 (eleven years ago)

i have completely forgotten about this band.

i see some old friends on this thread: DJ Martian, fandango (who might still be around but under a different name), a great guy splates (who was also on another board that i use to be on) and Bimble (who i don't really need to say anything about) RIP.
