The Glasses Conspiracy

I need a list of every musical genius to have worn prescriptive glasses throughout their careers in order to disprove a smug hipster who claims none exist outside of....Elvis Costello. Glasses worn for the purpose of fashion need not apply.

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:33 (twenty years ago)

Santiago Durango. I really dug his guitar playing with Naked Raygun and stuff, but I'm sure most would not consider him a GENIUS!!

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:36 (twenty years ago)

Elton John
Felix da Housecat
Richie Hawtin

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:36 (twenty years ago)

But then again I sure as hell don't consider Elvis Costello to be a GENIUS!!!

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:37 (twenty years ago)

It's extremely hard to think of a female artist to fit the list though. Glasses are probably thought to be less hot on girls than guys. I guess Lisa Loeb doesn't apply?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:39 (twenty years ago)

I think glasses are hotter on girls! Oh yeah, I'm not gay though so I would'nt really be able to compare. I've always thought Lisa Loeb was quite fetching though...

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:50 (twenty years ago)

I find girls with glasses hot too, but I think the stereotypical view is that they're not - especially not when it comes to rock/pop music - which is why most female musicians with bad eyesight probably wear contacts.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:56 (twenty years ago)

I bet when it comes to rap "music" it's probably not considered "hot". But I thought it seemed like girls could get away with it more in rock/pop music, but yeah, I can't really think of any other girls in any music donning specs, so there's probably some truth to it.

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 10:09 (twenty years ago)

I suppose Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder don't count.
Howbout Herbie Hancock? Bo Diddley?

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 21:02 (twenty years ago)

Dizzy Gilespie (have no clue if I spelled the dude's name right!)

DUDE - DMC!!

also, back in the 80s kids used to get robbed for some hip glasses of the time called Cazelles (I think that's how it's spelled)....Slick Rick has worn glasses...Master P.....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 23:15 (twenty years ago)

Of course!

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 00:47 (twenty years ago)

Why does it have to be throughout their careers?

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 00:52 (twenty years ago)

What if they got contact lenses at some point?

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 00:52 (twenty years ago)

I think Mohammed Abdel Wahab wore them for much, if not most, of his career, and he's a damn sight more of a musical genius than Elvis Costello.

Yeah, do any of these musicians neccessarily need to be a genius? Can't they just be talented or creative or whatever?
