What would you classify as "buzz bin" albums so far in 2006 -- aka records that are receiving early hype, deserved or not?

Morningwood
The Strokes
We Are Scientists
Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins ... perhaps?

Well, The Strokes is a future bargain bin album of 2006.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 23 January 2006 21:56 (twenty years ago)

man Morningwood is a horrible band, too jokey like The Darkness who are garbage as well

J. Lamphere (WatchMeJumpStart), Monday, 23 January 2006 21:57 (twenty years ago)

At the risk of being the boy who cried "Rhymesayers," P.O.S.

Pete Scholtes (Pete Scholtes), Monday, 23 January 2006 22:19 (twenty years ago)

I'll take P.O.S. as a qualified answer.
And I disagree about Morningwood. Looking forward to seeing them live.

The Rumble Strips

It seems to me that Morningwood is the subject of a lot more backlash than hype, but maybe I'm wrong.

I'm not paying attention to opinions about Morningwood on the internets. I'm just listening to the album and loving it.

Biggest album buzz in the indie realm thus far has been Destroyer, I'd say. And it's just as flat and boring as every other Destroyer album has been, so I don't see the point. Get lost, Dan Bejar.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 03:54 (twenty years ago)

OUCH!
I like me some Bejar. Rubies is bright and shiny...brilliant in fact. Deserving of the hype. Please stay, Bejar! And, you stay too Johnny Fever. I love u both!

the Black Black

Are there cases of records getting backlash without hype?

Brian O'Neill (NYCNative), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 06:06 (twenty years ago)

i've heard that rumble strips single, perhaps it's a grower but i'm not exactly blown away

I'd say the backlash to hype ratio for Pavement's Terror Twilight is, like, 50:1 (and deservedly so).

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 06:18 (twenty years ago)

Who's in P.O.S., Pete?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 06:45 (twenty years ago)

Islands, maybe?

POS is terrible, and not very hyped (unless you live in the Twin Cities, where any hip hop group is hyped)

sovietpanda (sovietpanda), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 07:57 (twenty years ago)

There is White Rose Movement, I guess - easily the biggest Paul Epworth project since Silent Alarm, possibly the best of his career so far. The album leaked a few days ago and is exceedingly searchworthy if you enjoy all the Epworth hoopla or even the new wave revival hoopla - the band are at least the best blank pop canvasses since Rachel Stevens.

(to answer your next several questions, no I'm not on their street team.)

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 08:39 (twenty years ago)

Ghostface Killah, OutKast, Gnarls Barkley, Busta Rhymes, Nas.

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:51 (twenty years ago)

Arctic Monkeys! Or is this a Yank-only thread?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:52 (twenty years ago)

Cat Power
