Do they have any other songs as good as "Funkytown?" "Funkytown" is incredibly good.

a simple internet search gave me this, you fucking clown:

Lipps Inc. was formed in 1977. Group was leaded by Steven Greenberg who produced and wrote all their songs, and the lead vocalist Cynthia Johnson who was Miss Black Minnesota in 1976. The other members were Terry Grant, David Rivkin, Tom Riopelle and Ivan Rafowitz.

Their first and last hit was a classic: "Funkytown", in 1979. It's one of the best known Disco songs. Lipps Inc. went to the 80's, but they did not do well. Some people say that they went to Funkytown and left all their good songs there... Anyway, in 1981, they recorded a "Funkytown-like" single called "How long". 4 years later, they recorded an interesting album , that has the single "Does Anybody Know me". However, nothing that can be compared to "Funkytown".

Blount's testimony might be taken as a possible contradiction of those statements! (xpost)

Tim, check out "how long?" their version of the Paul Carrack song which was the musical basis for Justus Kohncke's "Timecode"

sovietpanda (sovietpanda), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:16 (twenty years ago)

'rock it' is quite good too.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:28 (twenty years ago)

that was pretty much part of what i rapped, except directed at him

sovietpanda (sovietpanda), Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:04 (twenty years ago)

I remember watching that Made episode and getting mad at him for not doing the flower/rap combo. I came up with this on the spot: "Hey girl, My name is ____ --I come from the land of 10000 lakes, and to get to your heart, i'll do whatever it takes, so just take this flower, stick it in your hand, and consider me your #1 man."

(he lived in Minnesota)

Talk about it.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 09:35 (seventeen years ago)

i never liked the chorus - way too cheesy depressing supermarket shopping. Everything up until the chorus comes in - absolutely amazing. The two-note arpeggio, the vocodered bit going into the proper singing. Smashing.

I used to listen to the first EP/LP all the time, so I'd say all four songs, "Funkytown", "All Night Dancing", "Rock It", and "Power" are all great. "Funkytown" is the clear stand out, and "All Night Dancing" kinda sounds like it's trying to ape Donna Summer's "MacArthur Park" a bit so it's the least of the four, but "Rock It" will work it, and "Power" while kinda long is nice too. If you're an ascending octave-ating disco bass junkie, "Power"'s your jam.

Mackro Mackro, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 15:35 (seventeen years ago)

Just about anything by World Domination Enterprises is (*fuckin') great.
