I mean, they both made sloppy, barely there music, but great, heavy records.

dude, listen to beat happening when you are sober. they have maybe a half dozen good songs, TOPS.

but when sabbath went maximal (let's say beginning w/ volume 4), beat happening went drone.

they were mining similar lyrical territory, though. a certain disengenuousness. cheezeballs.

But who is Beat Happening's Geezer Butler?

Thanks to this thread, I now have a vision of Dio doing "This Many Boyfriends Club".

No, thank YOU!

Toots and the Maytalls. Seriously, both of those bands are derivative of the ska built in 85 by tha MMB.

SkaFanatic, Friday, 27 January 2006 07:19 (twenty years ago)

sabbath not sloppy, happening not heavy. bring back sides.

Sabbath sloppy? Now there's the words of someone that don't play music. Or listen very well, either. They were tight as hell.

Paranoid is as tight as Black Candy

senseiDancer (sexyDancer), Friday, 27 January 2006 15:10 (twenty years ago)

good bands but beat happening are more interesting in that the tension between naivete/innocence and seedy cynicism has more to say for itself than unrelenting gloom.

but sabbath's so optimistic sometimes! at one point i would have said beat happening but now it's def. sabbath. that said jamboree and you turn me on are pretty ace.
