Just curious. Would a Girls Aloud track about Rooney and Drogba be too much to ask?

I am scared shitless by the possible prospect of an Australian World Cup song.

Perhaps Rose Tattoo could re-release "Assault and Battery" in honour of the England fans.

OH NO

OH GOD NO

A TELEVISED nationwide search for a rousing soccer anthem will begin soon on SBS.

Before Australia's appearance in the World Cup in Germany this year, a seven-part series, tentatively titled A Song For The Socceroos, will comb the country for a "pop-rock classic" to inspire the team to victory. "We're putting out the call for songwriters," an SBS spokesman said yesterday.

Ricky Martin's World Cup song from 1998 is still the best thing he's ever done.

three months pass...
A BETTER WORLD CUP SONG...

Most people hate the Embrace track as it's a woeful dirge, and this has caused dozens of bands to create their own songs which they feel are more appropriate.. and fun.

My favourite is The Terraces, "Wunderbar, Engerland!" it's a cover (of sorts!) of the old Ten Pole Tudor track, Wunderbar.

Their spiel goes ....
The Terraces have recorded their Footie Anthem for the 2006 World Cup - Wunderbar En-ger-land!
A thumping, rabble-rousing Berlin beer-stomper of a tune! Check out their promo video...
