Listening to Prolific Artists...

(nearly typed that as "Listening to proficient arctics".. nearly derailed the thread before it started!)
Inspired by the Andy Partridge vs Elvis Costello thread.

Some artists naturally write more material than others, and some of those are fortunate enough to be able to release them whenever they think fit.

But what of artists that regularly produce vast (i.e. long) albums? If they are explorations of their own psyche, would their mindset transfer to yours by sheer weight of numbers?

On the other hand, if a non-prolific artists issues a fairly short album after years of contemplation, is it more to be considered and dealt with on a more subjective level?

Is it more polite?

It seems you are confusing prolific with volume. Anyone can put out large volume of material, doesn't mean it's good -- look at someone like Jason Molina, most of his stuff is junk. I think for someone to be prolific, they would not only be producing an abundant amount of work but that it would also be of some aesthetic value.

How about "TS: Starting from the beginning of a prolific artist's body of work VS. listening to the most well-regarded albums first and then slowly working through the rest"?
