What else is there like "The Campfire Headphase"?

I am addicted to "The Campfire Headphase." I listen to it all day--I just can't get over the synth washes, treated guitars, tasteful but unobtrusive head-nodding beats that build from the center channel to the left and right channels, chiming sounds, drifting, pleasant mood and, in general, awesome, well-chosen *sounds.*

What else is there like it? Weirdly, I don't think that the other Boards of Canada records are really what I have in mind, since they are different mood-wise. The only thing I can really think of is the last half of "Endtroducing," but I'm addicted to / tiring of that too.

What say ye?

Ulrich Schnauss "A Strangely Isolated Place" and an album I only briefly heard, but enjoyed,by the artist Pedro. From what I remember, it was in the same vein, but I was also stoned.

I'd say Bibio (both albums, but the new one isn't out yet) except for the head-nodding beats part.

It doesn't have the guitars, but I think most fans of Boards of Canada would like Bola's album Fyuti. That guy gets some lush analog synth sounds.

Black Moth Super Rainbow, but I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not.

I am of the opinion that it is a very good thing...

Where I am with BMSR is that they sound nice, but I feel like they're lacking something that BoC have, soundwise. Not enough Goth/Wicker Man vibe or something. Not faux-aged enough or something, maybe. Nice though.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

I think BMSR are a bit closer to the Focus Group/Belbury Poly/Ghostbox axis than BoC...(the whole rural/sci-fi vibe, probably due to vocoder prominence)...they will probably always be seen as walking in BoC's footsteps, though...shame, really...

henry s, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 17:16 (nineteen years ago)

Seeing them live and functioning as a band might completely dispel this idea to be honest.

Have you tried Helios? Eingya is immense.

Or Kettle?

Both nice, and deceptively multi-layered...

Agreed (I don't like this one as much as first but it is from the same world as Campfire Headphase).
