You might try the same trick with THe Libertines, whose influences at first sight seem to be 100% Brit: Jam, Clash, Kinks, a bit of music hall, those redcoats. Scratch the surface and there's more, however. Doherty described their sound as the melody of Django Reindhardt plus the aggression of the Stooges. No British or American music has existed in isolation from each other since the 60s.
