dave q (listerine), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 07:03 (twenty years ago)

Shut it.

alaruim, Wednesday, 19 April 2006 07:43 (twenty years ago)

If this is the Waffle House, then why don't syrup run from the taps?

Esteban Butthead (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 09:18 (twenty years ago)

Greg Norton's tache was far superior to Peart's therefore Husker Du win.

dr lulu (dr lulu), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 09:35 (twenty years ago)

Also, Husker Du never used Ayn Rand's theories for an album concept. I think.

Esteban Butthead (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 09:46 (twenty years ago)

"Xanadu" was about cunnilingus?!

Edward Bax (EdBax), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 11:18 (twenty years ago)

the "cunnilingus vs meth" argument makes about as much sense as the "hüsker dü vs rush" arguement.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Husker Du's "classic" record sounds like it was recorded in a cardboard box, using cardboard instruments and a cardboard microphone. Rush's "classic" album (er... 2112, I guess) sounds like a gift from some super-advanced libertarian cyborg race. Rush wins.

adam (adam), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Kind of in the same way that herpes is "a gift"...

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 13:17 (twenty years ago)

Or the pyramids.

I guess AllMusic's summary of Zen Arcade is waaaay off then...

Edward Bax (EdBax), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 14:01 (twenty years ago)

Ayn Rand is the opposite of rock n roll. Hüskers in a walk.

Jason Toon (Jason Toon), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 18:28 (twenty years ago)

Too close to call!

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 19:32 (twenty years ago)

Love'em both, but Rush made more shittier albums (and continue to).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 22:29 (twenty years ago)

one of my most prized possessions is an original vinyl copy of new day rising that i brought with me to a husker du show in '86. i held it aloft as i went close to the front, my hope being that bob mould or grant hart would autograph it. mould snatched it from my outstretched hand, frisbee'd it out into the crowd, and the band immediately launched into 'the girl who lives on heaven hill'. the LP was returned to me in good shape, although someone had spit on the cover. ; (

gear (gear), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 22:36 (twenty years ago)

See, if you had tried that with Rush, Geddy or Alex would've thought that you were trying to return the record, and they would've given you a Canadian ten-dollar bill in exchange.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 22:46 (twenty years ago)

Why would they give him 10 bucks for a Husker Du record?

dr lulu (dr lulu), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 22:54 (twenty years ago)

Alex doesn't have that one.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 23:27 (twenty years ago)

Husker Du by a long shot considering I've never liked Rush.

I've met Geddy Lee's nephew too. He is a very stereotypical 'wealthy Jewish teenage male' which is fine and all, except he would wear headbands. . . constantly.

Again, I prefer Husker Du.

i got the idea for this question after listening to "If I Told You" (from 'New Day Rising') which sounds like it could be on 'Signals'.

wow...i can almost see that.

similarly, "subdivisions" sounds like it could be on Warehouse (not entirely dissimilar to "no reservations").

10 bucks is ten bucks.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 20 April 2006 13:16 (twenty years ago)

ten years pass...

is there a question that doesn't boil down, ultimately, to this?
