Which of Birkin's Gainsbourg-produced albums are worth tracking down? I don't really know anything about them except for the tracks on the Initials S.G. comp, since Allmusic doesn't have reviews for any of them but the recent Gainsbourg covers concert Arabesque. Dusty Groove says that Di Doo Dah had string arrangements by Jean-Claude Vannier, which makes it very tempting, but other than that I'm completely clueless.

Di Doo Dah is the shit and you should get it right away, basically. And yes, the Vannier arrangments are amazing. Jane Birkin et Serge Gainsbourg is excellent too, and has more of a straight french pop sound to it. But win/win
