Busta Rhymes - New York Shit

This song is hot. I love the crime-dramaesque sampled woodwinds, great beat, great rhymes, and I'm a sucker for hearing "New York" repeated over and over again in a song in the era of Texas twang.

Incredible energy and drive from someone who's been making hits for a decade and a half.

I assume this little tag at the end of the song is a dig at the Southward and Westward drift of hip-hop these days:

Yeah! I think it's about time for y'all to give New York there shit back
Y'all know where the crown belong, y'all know we started this shit
You know we gave birth to all of this shit
Don't get it confused nigga

For sure, a lot of the best NYC artists are veterans these days if not retired, and the drawl is definitely bending a lot of ears, but I'll always like this kind of hip-hop the most - fast, sharp, and mean.

the beat kills, but was jacked from Diamond D's "I went for mine". Both are great, but Busta seems to dig into the beat more than D.

This is going to be the NYC party song of the summer, I reckon.

I remember hearing this song a few weeks ago on the radio, and that the outro sounded like it was about 5 minutes long, but every bit of it was amazing.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Anyone know when this album is supposed to come out?

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 02:31 (twenty years ago)

If he issues an instrumental-only version, I'll buy it. Holy shit do I love that woodwind sound. 1972 amber vibe.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 03:17 (twenty years ago)

Admittedly, I didn't know the Diamond D. track beforehand, and "jacked" is a pretty appropriate term.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 03:35 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...

I'm feeling this one. The beat is very infectious. Have you heard Joe Buddens version for New Jersey
