jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Saturday, 29 April 2006 05:52 (twenty years ago)

YEAH NO TALKING

lf (lfam), Saturday, 29 April 2006 07:09 (twenty years ago)

like the best sort of handjobs or something, it pulls the right moves for a fair while, and then gives you something you didn't expect. what a dumb analogy. it's really great, and the reason it's great is because you can ride a mix for a very long time on it, and it's the sort of song that allows you to say, "ok, here's where things change." or something.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Saturday, 29 April 2006 09:14 (twenty years ago)

How about those new C2 mixes of Goldfrapp? Bloody marvellous!

JoB (JoB), Saturday, 29 April 2006 11:25 (twenty years ago)

I'm not really feeling the Goldfrapp mixes so far, although I've only heard them once. I liked the stabby chordy one (no.4 I think), but the rest sounded a tad generic. I need to hear them out I think.

jng (jng), Saturday, 29 April 2006 16:45 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
OOOOOOOOh! Cover Art. Nice.

matt2 (matt2), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:31 (twenty years ago)

my order is on the way, can't wait. wonder how the other three, somewhat er ignored mixes shape up?

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Friday, 26 May 2006 16:24 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'm actually most interested in D&G's own reworking actually (after the CC).

matt2 (matt2), Friday, 26 May 2006 16:32 (twenty years ago)

that cover art makes me want to dance. too bad i'm in a library.

trees (treesessplode), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:27 (twenty years ago)

i don't like the text on the sleeve at all, but i love the picture.
also, i would like to divorce myself from my comment above. i have no memory of it, but i think that stupid analogy may have been made under profound psychological and physical stress.
i still love this song. still haven't found a copy of it.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:37 (twenty years ago)

wow - jinx hijinks was an asshole back in april

lf (lfam), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:40 (twenty years ago)

YSI?

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 26 May 2006 23:54 (twenty years ago)

i lke that cover but i prefer it when covers for albums and singles from that album have a similar theme or style. plus i really liked that civil war thing they had going on.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 26 May 2006 23:58 (twenty years ago)

I am itching to hear the Baby Ford mix. And to play the ballyhooed Carl Craig mix HELLA LOUD instead of on laptop speakers.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Saturday, 27 May 2006 03:30 (twenty years ago)

baby ford mix?! please talk about this.

breakfast pants (disco stu), Saturday, 27 May 2006 15:30 (twenty years ago)

baby ford: "a futuristic minimal masterpeice"!
DFA: "another definitive Disco moment"!!

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Saturday, 27 May 2006 15:44 (twenty years ago)

i figure that hyperbole is kind of justified on this, but yeah.

i want to know what b ford did with the huge arppegios. classy choice of a remixer. it would be cool if he did a mix in his usual style, but also made it into some kind of 2006 bleepy balearic acid house thing.

breakfast pants (disco stu), Saturday, 27 May 2006 16:03 (twenty years ago)

baby ford remix = very disappointing. he didn't really use anything from the original that i can hear. it is very reduced like the driest perlon b-side and is more or less a continuously repeated loop.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Saturday, 27 May 2006 17:53 (twenty years ago)

that does sound disappointing. Tim Sweeney ended his set here last weekend with the carl craig mix, and on good speakers that track is gorgeous. Also Tim is one of the nicest guys I met. He's coming back on the 8th of June and I can't wait, Austin is starving for good dance music.

Jacobs (LolVStein), Saturday, 27 May 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I was at that show! Tim was freakin' awesome and definitely a nice guy to boot.

If you think Austin is starving, try living in Houston... :(

jeffery (jeffery), Sunday, 28 May 2006 07:48 (twenty years ago)

the album cover d&g rejected would've fit the single perfectly. denying their inner-disco was a misstep.

imbidimts, Sunday, 28 May 2006 14:12 (twenty years ago)

i am not surprised by stirmonster's description, but it is a bit disappointing. his tunes/remixes can feel a bit like x-rays these days. have to hear it for myself of course.

the cover art is wonderful.

breakfast pants (disco stu), Sunday, 28 May 2006 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Hey, jeffery I have a friend in Houston who works at this club called A38, and he's always trying to get me to come there; have you been, is the music any good? If your in austin on June the 3nd, I'm playing records at this club called the firehouse, if your into italo/old house. I feel like austin is slowing beginning to dance again.

Jacobs (LolVStein), Sunday, 28 May 2006 18:14 (twenty years ago)

I'm the Saturday resident at a38! Who's your friend? It's a tight place with excellent sound. The owner is Dustin Swint who lived in Austin a few years back. I think we're still trying to find some consistency; some nights there will be a good crowd up for it and I can play a lot of good new underground music, other times the crowd can be a very slow/conservative and I really have to bend and play very mainstream to keep the people there.

I guess my frustration with Houston is more with the crowds than anything...to be fair, there are a TON of events going on here, but there are very few places you can hear the kind of mix that Sweeney laid down in Austin. Boys and Girls club on Wednesdays at a38 gets close to this vibe sometimes.

jeffery (jeffery), Monday, 29 May 2006 00:59 (twenty years ago)

Back on topic: what is the release date on Revelee?

jeffery (jeffery), Monday, 29 May 2006 01:16 (twenty years ago)

My friends name is Josh. I think he did the website and does flyer for Dustin. I met Dustin awhile ago when he use to live here. Josh is a great guy.

Jacobs (LolVStein), Monday, 29 May 2006 19:11 (twenty years ago)

What is the release date on Revelee?

Today! :)

Omar (Omar), Monday, 29 May 2006 19:37 (twenty years ago)

why is the idea of carl craig as remixer du jour bugging me so much?

is it the 1st sign of his slipping into derrick-may-esque working retirement mode?

renegade bear shot by cops on frat row (vahid), Monday, 29 May 2006 19:44 (twenty years ago)

because you are easily bugged and contary?

jed_ (jed), Monday, 29 May 2006 19:55 (twenty years ago)

apparently the DFA mix is also great?

:D

jed_ (jed), Monday, 29 May 2006 20:02 (twenty years ago)

is it the 1st sign of his slipping into derrick-may-esque working retirement mode?

There's going to be a new album next year (erm...come to think of it, that what May always says isn't it? :)

Omar (Omar), Monday, 29 May 2006 20:18 (twenty years ago)

carl craig's new tres demented 12" is wonderful.

degsy may has numerous aborted albums that were going to be his 'definitive statement'. the one he recorded with a load of african percussionists that r&s were going to release was the one i really hoped would actually come out.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 29 May 2006 20:48 (twenty years ago)

ysi?

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Monday, 29 May 2006 21:00 (twenty years ago)

the album cover d&g rejected would've fit the single perfectly.

Hm? What's this, then?

Telephonething (Telephonething), Monday, 29 May 2006 22:52 (twenty years ago)

working retirement? what is the most recent derrick may release?

breakfast pants (disco stu), Monday, 29 May 2006 23:01 (twenty years ago)

nine months pass...
this is so lovely. love the compressed vocals.

lfam, Thursday, 8 March 2007 05:50 (nineteen years ago)

wait, so people have reached a consensus that something on DFA is great?! Astonishing!

Saxby D. Elder, Thursday, 8 March 2007 05:53 (nineteen years ago)

the DFA mix sounds like 'ride on time' by black box.

haitch, Thursday, 8 March 2007 22:51 (nineteen years ago)

eight months pass...

i remember when this killed my friend's crowded living room. that was fun.

elan, Saturday, 10 November 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

three years pass...

this fucking track still slays so much

lex pretend, Saturday, 16 July 2011 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

fourteen years pass...

I saw Carl Craig tonight and he played a version of this and while it wasn't awful there really is no reason to reach for any other version than his original remix of it
