Blue Velvet is an instrumental sextet based in New York City. We are made up of two electric guitarists, two percussionists, a cellist, and a keyboardist. Our music is, for lack of better terms: minimal, repetitive, noisy, drony, angular, abrasive, "experimental", "no wave", "post rock". 10 Influences and Heroes: Tony Conrad, The Zombies, The Velvet Underground, Philip Glass, Glenn Branca, The Ex, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Lungfish, and Shellac.

Our music is organic, made by real people in real time, no tricks, samples, or loops, and no vocals, distorted or processed guitar, no electric bass, and no standard rock drum kit.

We are booked by Noise Problem, based in Chicago, IL, and have done tour support for Octis, Green Milk From The Planet Orange (Japan), and My Way My Love (Japan), and countless others while home and on the road.

We'd prefer to play an all ages (or 16+) show, and would hope to be put on a bill with other local bands, and would also be happy to open up an existing bill. But we'd appreciate any help you could give us, and look forward to hearing from you. If you have any other dates available near the one mentioned above, or could point us in some other helpful direction, we'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Matt Peterson

This thread reminds me of how much I hated booking tours.

Eh, it's not so bad. I mean, it stinks to feel like you're trying to "sell" people your band. But I like dealing with everyone myself, making it a bit more social, and not some professional bs.

You guys played at the Holy Shit Festival in Detroit last year. I only caught part of your set, but you sounded pretty good. I'm not sure if Ben Hernandez is still booking shows around Detroit, but you may want to check with him if yer interested in playing in Detroit again.

Jeff, yeah, Ben's booked our last couple of shows in Detroit. Good dude. I wrote to him. He actually made this series of mix tapes for the Holy Shit!!! fest, one of which was so good I asked him for it, and then give it away to a girl I had a crush on. I lose. But I win for playing with the 25 Suaves that night!

Marisa (got your name from the site, not from being creepy), would 6/15 work instead of 6/14? I'll email you.

Jonathan, do you do any shows in STL, or have a band? We could prob. get a show there, but our friend Ryan from So Many Dynamos says it might not be worth coming through.

I'm psyched to play with Piglet, as I've heard great things.
