I've been a big fan of theirs for years, but their older albums are pretty hard to find (espcially Airto's), so I own mostly compilations and such. My favourite is probably this (though my CD version has some extra tracks compared to the LP version linked), which seems to collect Airto's work with Hermeto Pascoal (another Brazilian artist who's records are pretty hard to come by). It's kinda different from his fusion era recordings, more acoustic and "traditional", though there's still lots of experimenting on these tunes. But I love his fusion stuff too, "Tombo in 7/4" and "Samba de Flora" never cease to delight me. Then there's his work as sideman, which is a whole new issue.
As for Flora, my favourite record is probably this, though it's more of a band recording than a solo effort. Anyway, the version of "Cravo e canela" here (with Milton Nascimento as a guest) sounds better than previous versions by Milton himself.
Has anyone seen Airto live lately? They're playing this summer at a local jazz festival, and I wonder if they're worth seeing...

i saw it in the store the other day, but wasn't really ready to drop 20$ on an album i'd never heard.
i'm also not really the biggest fan of Hermeto Pascoal. i've bought three of his albums and they've always left me flat. dunno why. sorta wanky fusion w/soft melodies.

THe 2 previous lps are pretty great.I picked up the 1st of thsoe, Butterfly Dreams from an HMV sale about 25 years ago then grabbed the 2nd Stories tO tell off a torrent site a couple of years back. They get pretty other at times, in a psychedelicish way. Quite good.
