Nominations For Focus Group No.3

This November another meeting of the Freaky Trigger Pop Music Focus Group will be held. What records should it cover? I'd like some suggestions. We need a list of about 40 singles from the last six months which fulfil most or all of the following criteria:

a) diverse b) hits c) significant in some way, i.e. major release from major artist, innovative, massive hit, symptomatic of a trend

Whether they are any good or not I'm completely indifferent to, though ideally the best radio hits of the six months should make it in.

All suggestions (you don't have to list 40 each!) very gratefully received!

Ohyeah, and of course if you fancy taking part in the focus group you can always mail me about that. It's really not difficult unless you're the kind of strange person who doesn't like Top 40 records.

Much in agreement with suggestions thus far. However, Tom, you've described a lot of people I know and like very much (admittedly not me) as "strange people" ...

Oh heavens. I think this has been the worst 6 months in the history of the top 40. (And I though the previous 6 months was the worst.....and the 6 months before that.....and the 6 months before that....and....and....and I think there's a trend going on here.....).

Alas, I have nothing to add to those songs already listed by others here!

six years pass...
Jesus Christ, how did people live through pop music in 2000?

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 25 February 2007 06:01 (seventeen years ago) link

The late 1990s thru early 2000s must surely be one of the most musically bankrupt periods in history. That might just be my projecting my shitty memories of middle school onto the music of that time, but then again... VERTICAL HORIZON.

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 25 February 2007 06:06 (seventeen years ago) link

For the record I still like "Country Grammar."
