this is going on right now and I should probably be there (free, music, outdoors etc), but i already missed Man Man and Tropical Malady is showing at MOMA at 6:45 and I've never seen it. My friend said he went last year and it miserable, crowded, and vomit-saturated. i might just cut my losses at make sure to go see Dead Meadow for free tomorrow at 3:00 at mccarren park.

Is anyone still going? Has gone before?

I went in '04. It was really, really awesome. But this late in the day, screw it.

i went a couple years ago. it was pretty alright. i rode the cyclone for the first time ever! [excluding the time my mother rode it when she was pregnant with me. explains *everything*, eh?]

i am not going because we have a show tonight, but thats OK. its bastille day and im bringing twinkies to throw at the bands.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 16 July 2006 04:26 (nineteen years ago)

I was dodge-BALLING today. this free mccarren park concert thing is the shit.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Sunday, 16 July 2006 23:54 (nineteen years ago)

A friend went just for Art Brut (as I would've if I hadn't seen em in the spring), and Eddie's shaved off his crap mustache!!! wtf?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

i have never really understood the appeal-- overhyped bands (most of whom don't play out well), excruciating heat, tons of people, overpriced concessions... sounds kind of like a horror show.

trees (treesessplode), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:26 (nineteen years ago)

so so horrible

haven't been in years and i don't miss it

cdwill (cdwill), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

the appeal is FREE (and not to stand and watch in one spot for more than 2 hours)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

two years pass...

Thinking about going to this this year. I really want to see Japandroids, Frightened Rabbit, and Micachu and the Shapes and I'm always up for BtS. That said, is it going to be really horrible and hot and just not worth it? I mean it's FREE and it's at Coney Island which I've never been to. Also, good excuse for w/e in NYC.

Chaki Demus & Pliers (ENBB), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 15:40 (seventeen years ago)

it's probably going to be hot (or rainy), and apart from the concert it's not the best day to go to Coney (and this isn't the best summer to go there, though it may only get worse), and the sound can suck, so yeah at least a little horrible, but I think it's still gonna be a nice venue for BtS and maybe some others if you'd rather do that than King Sunny Ade in Prospect Park.

Reggiano Jackson (gabbneb), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 15:47 (seventeen years ago)

It's definitely fun, sunny, full of yummy fried foods and worth going to if you legitimately excited about the bands. And Monotonix are going to be AMAZING in that venue, assuredly.

However, New Yorkers LOOOOOVE their free shows and this shit gets crowded well beyond the acceptable boundaries of crowded. I've made it a point to consciously avoid the majority of clusterfuck free shows unless I'm totally amped on the bands. Which is probably why the whole McCarren thing blew by me.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

yeah last year was crowded as fuck and also HOT but i had a decent enough time, got to see some solid bands and a personal hero, and plus it was free

is it ok to oscarbait 'million dollar baby'? (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

is it ok to oscarbait 'million dollar baby'? (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 16:26 (seventeen years ago)

try and get vip; it's the way to see this

pending echeques (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

Well, I'm sure that would be great but I have no idea how I'd even begin to try and do so!

Chaki Demus & Pliers (ENBB), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

All you have to do is move to New York, get a job working in the music industry, and make all the proper connections!

It's really the way to see this apparantly

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 18:27 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, the sound gets aggressively shittier almost immediately after you leave the press area.

da croupier, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

okay, okay, dumb comment on my part

pending echeques (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

no it's not! srsly if you aren't right near the front the sound is ass.

da croupier, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 18:58 (seventeen years ago)

at least it was in 04, the only time i've gone.

da croupier, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 18:59 (seventeen years ago)

my experience as well, but it's kind of like saying "you know where you should sit? the good seats"

pending echeques (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

if the sound sucks balls beyond a few yards from the stage, I'd want to know.

da croupier, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 20:06 (seventeen years ago)

You two should brag about your jobs more. ENBB isn't even allowed to use YouTube at work apparently.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 20:14 (seventeen years ago)

I was a +1, bitch!

da croupier, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, I forgot I took you!
