Or -- more realistically -- recommend a book IN ENGLISH with some mildly interesting and not completely inaccurate passages about schlager and/or volksmusik.

(Yes, this is in part a not-very subtle attempt at getting Colin Meeder's attention.)

volksmusik or volkstümliche musik? i cant imagine anyone writing books about the latter

Both, even though now I don't think I'm clear on the distinction.

When somebody says a music-related subject isn't worth a book, that only makes me more intrigued.

anyway, there are plenty of volksmusik song books and schlager fan literature, but i dont think any of it has been translated. get someone to translate the wikipedia entry on volkstümlicher schlager for you, thats about as exhaustive as it gets

are there any good books in german, then?

(oddly, cd-wow has some cheaply priced schlager compilations)

eleven months pass...

Only two threads about Schlager, and neither especially lively. Hmmm.

Anyway, ILM I need your help. DESPERATELY seeking mp3s/CDs of the following for a wedding I'm DJing at on Monday, and I can't find feck-all here in the UK. Can anyone help?

Dieter Thomas Kuhn - "Eine Neue Liebe Ist Wie Ein Neues Leben" (there are loads of versions of this but I need DTK's one)
Dschinghis Khan - "Moskau" (the video for this is up on youtube - holy hell it's GOLD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH8gtrD4_C4)
Stefan Raab - "Wadde Hadde Dudde Da" (Germany's Eurovision entry from, iirc, 1999)

Can anybody help? Or does anyone know anywhere in London where I can buy shit like this? Argh...

If you're on Windows, I recommend ExtractNow, it's a really simple and lightweight thingy for extracting .rar files (among other formats). Just drag-and-drop files into its window and click Extract.
